Wiveliscombe has an excellent guidebook which offers two guided walks that helps you to discover the town and its history.  

You can step out of Garden Cottage and be in the countryside within 5 minutes of leaving the front door.

A locally produced circular walk books provided 15 circular walks from the town square 5 minutes from the cottage.  Walks range from three to twelve miles.

There are 2 extended walks around Wiveliscombe.  
The Wivey way, 26 miles which can be shortened to two 13 mile walks.
The Brendon Towers Way.  20 miles linking 8 old churches around Wiveliscombe

Further afield and within easy reach there are excellent walks on Exmoor and the Quantocks.  Many can be found in the Pathfinder guide 9, “Exmoor and the Quantocks”.
 Walk 17, Wills Neck,  takes you to the highest point on the Quantocks starting from West Bagborough 11 miles away.  Walk 21, Dunkery Beacon, takes you to the highest point on Exmoor.  Start of the walk 17 miles away.   
  
The owners are keen walkers have explored the area extensively and are happy to offer suggestions on these and other walks.  Guides are available in the cottage.

The area is also renowned for cycling.  There are some very beautiful rides across Exmoor and the surrounding hills.  Whilst there are some quite easy rides for the experienced cyclist, many involve a lot of climbing and can be challenging. There are many cycle routes to follow and can be found on various websites.  A good one is Komoot.  The owner is a keen cyclist and can also provide advice
