About Tan Y Capel

Tan y Capel has recently been renovated to sleep five people in two bedrooms for a self-catering getaway in the Welsh countryside. Tucked away in the quiet hamlet of Bont Dolgadfan, the holiday cottage is ideal for walking, cycling, mountain biking, and fishing on the the River Dyfi. The Afon Twymyn flows next to the house between the Ffrwd Fawr waterfall and the River Dyfi. Snowdonia National Park is within easy reach, as is the beautiful Ceredigion coast. As well as the high standard of accommodation, guests love that there are footpaths and mountain bike trails you can access without needing a car, the riverside location, and the fantastic mountain views.

Part of the appeal of Bont Dolgadfan is its size. It's tiny, with no light pollution and very little traffic, making it perfect for a rural retreat. A convenience store and cafe is two miles away in Llanbrynmair or is six miles away in Carno, but most people drive 20 minutes west to Machynlleth or south to Llanidloes for groceries. Machynlleth (typically referred to as "Mach") has a weekly market every Wednesday, while Llanidloes market is on Saturday.

As nice as browsing a market is, you didn't plan a holiday to Mid-Wales to shop! Walking is the most popular way for visitors to explore, closely followed by mountain biking, with miles of stunning footpaths and exciting trails to enjoy. A favourite route is to the Cerrig Caerau Stone Circle, returning via the Wynnstay Arms in Llanbrynmair for a pub meal. You can plan the perfect day on the bike with the Nant-yr-Arian, Dyfi Forest, Cambrian Mountains, Trans Cambrian Way, and Snowdonia nearby to ride. Alternatively, drive 45-minutes south to the stunning Elan Valley. Nearby, the 615-acre Clywedog reservoir is a good choice for seasonal trout fishing or explore the Hafren Forest behind the reservoir where Ospreys nest. If you are feeling adventurous you can head through the forest to the source of the River Severn.

Tan y Capel is available for holiday bookings all year round. The owners have included lots of touches like a log burner in the living room and a wide choice of utensils and equipment in the kitchen to help you immediately settle and feel at home.
