About Grove Cottage

Grove Cottage is in Solva, which is one of the most relaxing places in Wales, if not the UK. The period property is within a short stroll of shops, cafes and welcoming pubs like the Cambrian Inn, and it is situated on a quiet lane with very little traffic to disturb the serenity. Two bedrooms sleep four people, and it has a long garden leading to the river. It is difficult to picture a more perfect setting in West Wales, whether you are travelling as a couple, a family or with friends.

Accommodation Comprises:

Grove Cottage is a traditional stone property with accommodation over three levels. The lower level, which has outdoor access, is the utility room and also a storage area for hiking boots, fishing equipment and other sporting gear. The owners have taken care to ensure the cottage is welcoming and comfortable for guests.

Downstairs:

  • The living area is open-plan, incorporating a sitting area, dining space and kitchen.
  • Sitting area with glass sliding doors to the deck that let in lots of natural daylight. With these open in warm weather, the living space is extended into the garden so you can fully enjoy the beauty of the Welsh summer. In the winter, keep them closed and light the fire then cwtch up on the sofa and relish in the sensation of warmth and comfort.
  • Kitchen area which includes everything guests need for a self-catering holiday in Pembrokeshire, including a dishwasher. The placement of the dining table allows family life to flow smoothly through the ground floor, with parents having the ability to cook while keeping an eye on the kids as they watch TV or play outside.
  • The owners have considerately provided a range of board games, crab nets and lines and a windbreak for the beach that guests are welcome to use during their stay.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom at the rear of the cottage, overlooking the garden. It has a double bed with bedside tables and reading lights.
  • Twin bedroom at the front of the cottage overlooking the quiet lane to Middle Mill.
  • Family bathroom with a bath includng overhead shower, WC and handbasin.

Outside: The long garden is mainly lawn and extends down to the river. There is a picnic bench and barbecue, mature trees for shade and space to play and relax in the sunshine. There is off-street parking directly next to the cottage.

Additional Information: Grove Cottage has WiFi and central heating. All utilities, linen and bath towels are included, but guests are requested to bring beach towels if required. The owners can supply logs and kindling for the open fire for a small cost. A high chair and travel cot (not sheets) are available. Please let the owner know if these are needed when booking. Smoking and pets are not permitted.

Location (The Pembrokeshire Coast)

Solva is on the St Davids peninsula in the Pembrokeshire National Park. The traditional fishing village has a beautiful harbour that is a favourite with owners of small boats and pleasure craft for its sheltered waters. The quay is a lovely spot to sit and watch the maritime action, while children love crabbing off the slip. The sandy beach is, like the rest of the Pembrokeshire coast, breathtaking.

The Pembrokeshire Coast Path, which wends its way around 186 miles of staggeringly beautiful coastline, passes through Solva, with a favourite stretch going from the village to the ancient city of St Davids. At a leisurely pace, it takes about two and a half hours to walk the four-mile route, giving walkers wonderful views not only of the ocean and beaches but also of historical landmarks like the lime kilns and Iron Age forts. A convenient "Puffin Shuttle" bus service operates between towns and villages on the footpath between May and September, and there is a regular bus service that goes from Solva to St Davids and Newgale all year round. Cycling is another fantastic way to explore in West Wales. Grove Cottage has secure storage for guests' bikes, and it is also possible to hire a bicycle locally.

It is not only the coast that attracts visitors to Solva. The quality of light is on par with Cornwall, and there is an active community of artists around both Solva and St Davids. Inland, the landscape changes from undulating coastline to rolling fields dotted with sheep and cows and quiet woodland. Local attractions include Solva Woolen Mill, which is good for shopping and has a popular cafe. If you pay a visit to Dr Beynon's Bug Farm around lunch time, then you can sample the menu at Grub Cafe which includes tasty insect dishes. Adventurous visitors can go coasteering or sea kayaking, and it is also possible to arrange a boat tour to see the seals and dolphins that have made the clean waters their home.

If you want a holiday that is fun and relaxing, where every day brings a beautiful new view or wonderful discovery, and where you can eat delicious locally grown food cooked by people who are passionate about quality and taste, then Solva is ideal.
