The Cottage at Lowes Farm in Grindon is a romantic country escape for two. It has a wonderful mix of solid stone walls and oak beams, combined with modern conveniences like central heating, a log burning stove, WiFi and an ensuite shower room. The cottage adjoins the main farmhouse, and the owners are happy to answer any questions you might have about what to see and do in the area. It is a working farm, so you are surrounded by beautiful fields and hedges, with friendly sheep (and lambs, in spring).
Grindon has been an established village for more than a thousand years. It was listed in the Domesday book as Grendon, meaning green hill, and you will understand why when you see it’s position in the Manifold Valley. The village is quite rural, with a pretty church and some excellent walks nearby. Most main amenities are around 20 minutes away in the market town of Leek. In addition to shops, supermarkets, cafes and pubs, Leek is home to Nicholson Museum and Gallery which houses a fantastic art collection and hosts a regular calendar of events. Also nearby is the Peak Wildlife Park in Winkhill, and the Leek and Rudyard Lake Steam Railway in Rudyard. Stoke-on-Trent, famous worldwide for the quality of its pottery, is 20 minutes past Leek.
The southern Peak District is renowned for the beauty of its countryside and the quality of the walks, bridleways and cycling trails in the area. Pack a picnic and head out for a day exploring places like The Roaches, Dovedale, the Manifold Valley, the Coombes Valley, and the Monsal Trail. Although Lowes Farm is at the southern end of the Peak District, it is less than an hour’s drive through beautiful scenery to places like Bakewell and Chesterfield with fantastic country houses including Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, and attractions like Ladybower Reservoir, Buxton Country Park, and the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath.
