Living
Six Litton Mill gives guests a unique opportunity to stay in a piece of Peak District history. The gorgeous ground floor apartment sleeps up to six people in three ensuite bedrooms, with open plan living that is perfect for modern families and groups of friends. Fall asleep to the gentle sounds of the River Wye and wake to sensational views and a location next to the fantastic Monsal Trail.
The apartment is in Miller's Dale in the geographic heart of the Peak District National Park, so it's ideal for visitors who want to see some of the region's most beautiful sights and favourite attractions. The village was on the old Midland Railway line between London and Manchester - a route which is now the traffic-free Monsal Trail that goes between Blackwell Mill and Bakewell. Walk or cycle into Bakewell, about 4.5 miles away, through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Peak District, or to the towering arches of the Combes Viaduct.
There are plenty of things to do during your stay at Six Litton Mill. If you can't think of a better way to spend your days than outdoors from dawn until dusk, rambling, hiking, cycling and climbing, you'll love the variety of footpaths, bridleways and mountain bike trails that cover the national park. If architecture is your thing, take time to admire the elegant Georgian and Victorian buildings of the spa town of Buxton and the region's spectacular stately homes like Chatsworth House. Contrast that extravagance with the more rustic, but no less beautiful, mills, farm buildings and dry stone walls, and you'll see why the Peak District appeals to everyone and is the most visited of all the national parks.
Monday is market day in nearby Bakewell. More than 100 traders congregate on the town, and it's an excellent time to buy food, housewares and other trinkets. Bakewell has a decent-sized supermarket and several bakeries selling fresh Bakewell puddings and tarts. After a few delicious servings, your top button will be straining and you'll understand why hill walking is such a favourite pastime! Hire a boat and spend a few hours on the Chesterfield Canal, or scale the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath. Chatsworth House, Bolsover Castle and Haddon Hall will stoke your "Downton Abbey" fantasy, while Eyam's history as a plague village pays testament to the character of the Peak District residents.
The Peak District is a holiday destination for every season, and nowhere is this more evident than at Six Litton Mill which is within easy reach of everything.
