Nimbus House is a pristine period holiday cottage in the Derbyshire village of Whaley Bridge. Constructed in the 18th Century and retaining much of its original character, the charming stone cottage sleeps five people in two bedrooms and features quality antiques from the owner's collection throughout. Although perfect for families, the layout also suits couples and friends, especially those who appreciate being within walking distance of shops, tea rooms, and friendly pubs like the Drum and Monkey. With stunning footpaths and cycling routes from the door, and a wealth of sights and attractions within a small radius, Nimbus House is a fantastic choice for a self-catering holiday.
Whaley Bridge is a pretty town in a central location less than a mile from the Peak District National Park. There are two welcoming pubs - The Cock serves food while the Drum and Monkey has a wide range of beers and local ale. Alternatively, swing by the superb wine shop and pick up something cheeky to drink with a fish and chip supper because life is all about balance. Whatever you can't get in Whaley Bridge, you'll be able to source nearby in Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxton, Castleton or Bakewell, all of which are within an easy drive. Alternatively, Manchester is under an hour by car or train, with its incredible museums, restaurants, shops and nightlife.
You can walk from the cottage to the Todbrook Reservoir in around ten minutes - longer if you take your time to admire the views of the River Goyt. Walk or cycle beside the Peak Forest Canal, or head south over Long Hill to get to Buxton, six miles away. Kinder Scout is a firm favourite with walkers and mountain bikers, while road cyclists come for the glory of climbing Cowlow Lane's 21.4% gradient. It's easy to be active outdoors in scenery this spectacular.
Peak District attractions for a day out include the magnificent Chatsworth House and its extensive gardens, Lyme Park, Poole's Cavern, and Buxton Country Park. Alton Towers is around 45 minutes from the cottage, while Stafford and the Potteries are not much further. Guests at Nimbus House have such a vast choice of places to go and things to do that you'll quickly feel like one holiday here simply isn't enough.
