About Fox Lodge

Fox Lodge sleeps four guests in comfort (plus an additional two on a sofa bed) and is ideally placed in Wirksworth, one of Derbyshire's oldest towns with a great choice of shops and places for a meal out on the doorstep.

Full of Victorian charm, the end of terrace holiday cottage has an open fire for winter breaks and a courtyard for enjoying a drink outside when the sun shines.

Wirksworth is noted in the Domesday Book and located close to the edge of the Peak District National Park within the Derbyshire Dales. Its quaint streets and maze of little alleyways wind around the marketplace which is surrounded by attractive buildings, and home to the weekly Tuesday market. You will find cafes, pubs and restaurants for a drink or meal out, and a good range of shops for stocking up on provisions (including a deli and bakery) just a short stroll from the cottage. There is also a playground for the younger ones with skate park. With an interesting and long history, Wirksworth is an appealing place to visit at any time of the year, and particularly in September when the Arts Festival is held, and May for the annual Well Dressing Festival.

Perfectly placed for exploring the many attractions of the Peak District; Chatsworth House, Carsington Water (great for water sports) and Gulliver's Kingdom (sure to be a hit with the little ones) are all a short drive away. Even closer is the World Heritage Site of Derwent Valley. Matlock Bath is also easily accessible by car, as is Bakewell; the attractive market town of Ashbourne with lots of independent shops to browse; and the cultural City of Derby.

Outdoor enthusiasts have endless opportunities with horse riding, golf, canoeing, caving, sailing and an abundance of superb walking and cycling throughout the local area, the Peak District National Park, Dovedale and also Edale. The High Peak Trail passes the edge of the town and offers over seventeen miles of stunning Derbyshire scenery en-route.

Whether you just want a weekend away to relax, eat out and enjoy some fantastic walking; or you want to explore the many attractions of the Peak District and Derbyshire Dales, Wirksworth is an excellent place to base yourself.
