Church Cottage is a fantastic 4-Star holiday cottage in the Northumberland village of Wall. The village is named after Hadrian's Wall, a Scheduled Ancient Monument constructed in 122BCE and stretching for 73 miles across England from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway. The cottage started life as two modest homes in the mid-1800s but is now a wonderfully welcoming holiday property sleeping four people in two bedrooms. The layout is ideal for couples, families or friends in all seasons, with many guests coming to enjoy the incredible scenery for which this region is famous. Church Cottage is near the pretty church and village green and a short walk from the Hadrian Hotel with its seasonal menu of homecooked pub meals and the Michelin-starred Hjem restaurant.
Wall might not be the most imaginative name for a village, but it is apt, as Hadrian's Wall is about half an hours walk from your cottage. Follow the wall to Milecaste, Brunton Turret or, just over a mile away over the River North Tyne, the wonderfully well-preserved Chesters Roman Fort. Even without the wall, Northumberland is a superb holiday destination. Head to the coast and Bamburgh Castle, or pack a picnic and make your way to the 13,000 acre Wallington estate with its lakes, parkland, woodland and a walled garden. The Beamish open-air museum is a fun day out for the whole family, and fans of Downton Abbey and Bridgerton should not miss the magnificence of Alnwick Castle, home to the Percy Family for more than seven centuries.
The cottage is close to the Northumberland National Park. Between that, the countryside and the spectacular coast, you're spoiled with a vast choice of footpaths, mountain bike trails, cycling routes and game fishing opportunities. Further afield are the Farne Islands, where 43,000 pairs of puffins mate every year, and the breathtaking Holy Island of Lindisfarne. On a more practical note, the historic market town of Hexham is only five miles away, offering a variety of places to eat, drink and shop.
Church Cottage is wonderfully well-equipped and welcoming in all seasons.
