The Hay Barn is the larger of two self-catering holiday cottages that are located in the very heart of the North York Moors National Park. Offering spacious and comfortable accommodation, both cottages are suitable for families or groups of friends who are seeking the peace and quiet of the countryside for either a holiday or short break. The Hay Barn sleeps twelve guests in six bedrooms and is attached to Stable Cottage which sleeps five in three bedrooms (see separate advert).
Both cottages are fully equipped with everything you should need for a perfect, relaxing break and are set on a south-facing hillside, affording wonderful views over Rosedale.
Here you can explore the local countryside, which is perfect for those who enjoy walking, mountain biking, cycling, bird watching, or simply relaxing amongst beautiful surroundings. Linger in one of the many quintessential villages, enjoy the fine cuisine in local eating establishments and sample locally brewed ales. The area really does offer "something for everyone" with country homes, seaside resorts, historic National Trust and English Heritage properties, city shopping, and some of Britain's finest countryside and scenery within easy reach from the front door!
The North York Moors National Park has more forest area than any other National Park in England and also contains the largest area of continuous heather moorland in both England and Wales. There are two visitor centres: Sutton Bank being the larger of the two (twenty two miles) and Danby in the Esk Valley near Castleton (twelve miles away). Each centre shows different displays highlighting both current-day life and the history of the North Yorkshire Moors, along with walking opportunities with marked trails and also guided walks at certain times of the year, led by a Wildlife Ranger.
The National Park is renowned for its 'crosses' which often mark the routes once walked by monks and pilgrims. The Moors are ideal for walkers, with fantastic walks starting from the doorstep of Hill Farm House. Moorland, wooded, riverside and coastal paths provide great diversity and are all within easy reach, along with walks on the disused Rosedale railway line; the ancient Roman Wheeldale Road; the Lyke Wake Walk (an ancient coffin trail) or Wainwright's famous Coast to Coast Walk across the moors.
Three or four night short breaks available all year; some restrictions apply. Please see the owner's website for details
