Oakley is a delightful modern self-contained holiday home in Whitby with private driveway parking for three cars and a fully enclosed, secure back garden. Barely a mile from the town centre, it's perfect for those who want to feel like they're escaping the usual tourist spots while still staying conveniently close to shops, cafes, pubs and other amenities that can make or break a self-catering holiday. The layout works well for families as it sleeps six people in four bedrooms with space for three more on sofa beds in the living room. It's also dog-friendly, allowing you to bring your four-legged family members on holiday too.
Whitby is the jewel in the crown of the Yorkshire Coast, a place so beautiful that people have been holidaying here for generations. It has a rich and fascinating history full of innovation, exploration, artistic creativity and the odd ghost or two. Explore the town's most iconic sites, including the lung-busting 199-steps from the Old Town to the churchyard of St Marys, on foot, or save your legs and take the open-top bus tour instead. If you're feeling brave, book a guided ghost tour to find out more about residents who liked Whitby so much that even their demise couldn't make them leave! Bram Stoker incorporated the harbour, the cliff-top abbey ruins, and other sights into his gothic horror, Dracula. Other local attractions include a museum dedicated to the life and achievements of Captain Cook, jewellers creating items from Whitby Jet, whale watching and sightseeing boat tours. Go horseriding on the long sandy beach, or sit with a pint by the harbour and watch the boats coming and going the way they have done for centuries.
The fun doesn't stop outside of town. Oakley is close to Sandsend, Robin Hood's Bay, Staithes, and Saltburn, so there is no shortage of coastal footpaths, beaches and (chilly) swimming spots. You're only a few minutes from the spectacular North York Moors National Park, with endless opportunities for walking and mountain biking. Take the Esk Valley Railway from Whitby to Middlesborough or one of the fantastic heritage steam trains on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Yorkshire. Fans of Harry Potter films can visit Goathland station, used as the setting for Hogsmead Station and the start of many wonderful walks.
Oakley suits families of all ages in every season. It's close enough to favourite sights and attractions to make planning activities and day trips easy, yet not so central that you'll have trouble parking your car or enjoying the peace and privacy of the quiet residential location.
Oakley is a modern holiday home with accommodation over two levels. It has been beautifully furnished in a way that's both comfortable and practical for families.
