Lock Cottage represents a true labour of love. Its owners have transformed it into a spacious, welcoming holiday home with space for six people to sleep in three bedrooms and a layout that lends itself perfectly to modern family lifestyles. The location in Lockton village is perfect for walking and cycling holidays in the North York Moors National Park but is also within easy reach of the Yorkshire coast and many miles of fantastic coastline. A village shop and tea room are a short walk from the door, with the nearest pub being The Horseshoe Inn just a mile away in Levisham.
Lockton is a quiet village popular with walkers and cyclists for the array of spectacular footpaths and trails leading over moorland and through nearby Cropton Forest and Dalby Forest. The 5.5-mile Lockton to Bride Stones figure-of-eight walk is a year-round favourite for the panoramic views. Start at Lockton's churchyard and walk towards Stain Dale and on to Bride Stones Moor and Dovedale. Newlyweds should be warned that the Great Bride Stone (the one that looks like an upside-down bottle) will cause them to be extra fertile! Visitors who really like to stretch their legs can walk to the Hole of Horcum.
Six miles west of Lockton, the historic market town of Pickering is always buzzing. It isn't merely a good place to pick up supplies for your self-catering holiday in the North York Moors but a popular holiday destination in its own right. Pickering attractions include the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Pickering Castle, St Peter's and St Paul's Church, and the superb Beck Isle Museum. Days out can also feature trips to Flamingo Land theme park and Eden Camp.
Lock Cottage is only half an hour from Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay and only a little further from Scarborough. Whitby grew up where the River Esk flows into the North Sea and has a long history as a fishing community. Whitby Abbey is famous for having inspired the setting for Bram Stoker's iconic Gothic novel, Dracula. Don't miss the view from the whalebone arch - it's the perfect backdrop for a memorable holiday photo. Robin Hood's Bay is a pretty fishing village with a lovely sandy beach and a coastline good for fossil hunting. Scarborough is the place to go for traditional seaside fun, boasting a waterfront promenade, theme parks and arcades, a castle, and the family-friendly SEA LIFE aquarium.
Lock Cottage welcomes guests all year round, offering weekend and mid-week breaks depending on availability.
