Diving Duck Cottage sleeps up to four guests in two bedrooms and is located on the outskirts of the Yorkshire village of Commondale. Tastefully furnished and well equipped, the holiday cottage sits in the very heart of North Yorkshire and provides easy driving access to not only York's ancient city centre but also Whitby on the coast and Heartbeat/Herriot Country.
The surrounding area offers excellent walking (with both challenging walks and more sedate options), pretty Yorkshire villages to discover and award winning museums and attractions
Adjacent to Diving Duck Cottage is Esk Valley Railway Line - a famous attraction of the area which makes a leisurely picturesque journey through simply stunning scenery - at Grosmont, it also links up to the North York Moors Steam Railway allowing you to visit Pickering in nostalgic style under steam power.
Commondale is today a small tranquil village with a little church, pub and a railway station serving the train line that runs from Middlesbrough to Whitby. It was formerly the point where a number of moorland tracks converged including The Monks Causeway (the route ran from Guisborough Priory To Whitby Abbey) which is still accessible today from the village taking you up over the moor.
The area offers plenty of lovely walks directly from the village leading out over the moors. One particular favourite takes you to the charming village of Castleton and is an enjoyable two and a half miles with a choice of pubs and shops (including a bank and post office) at the other end.

Formerly a hay store and pig sty, Diving Duckling Cottage sleeps four guests and has been tastefully converted to provide compact yet exceptionally comfy self-catering accommodation. Beautifully presented, the cottage combines the convenience of modern day appliances with the comfort and character of the original building.
The owners Chris and Jean, have lovingly completed the conversion themselves to a high standard and have gone to great lengths to ensure your every need has been met. Under floor heating has been installed to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere whatever the time of year and a log burning stove makes it perfect for cosy nights in when the weather is a little chilly.
The lounge and dining area both have a slate floor, providing a traditional yet practical surface for wheelchair users and dogs with muddy paws. Fully tiled, the shower room has a level access shower (plenty of hot water always available), WC and wash basin, along with under floor heating making it warm under foot!
There is a well equipped kitchen containing an electric oven, ceramic hob, fridge freezer, microwave and dishwasher and a dining area where you can enjoy supper and chat about the days adventures. Outside in an adjacent building there is a washer dryer for guests use.
French doors open onto a patio area with a south facing aspect where you can sit and look over the river. Equipped with outdoor furniture and a Gas BBQ, the patio provides an ideal place to relax or eat alfresco on those warm summer evenings. Steps take you down to a small garden with lawn area large enough for the children (or dog) to play safely and let off steam.
