Brandsby is a small but charming village with a long history. It's named after the Danish Viking who liked it so much that he decided he'd stay, whether or not the locals agreed! It's blissfully peaceful with stunning views over the Vale of York that reach as far as York Minster, just over 10 miles away. Many of the guests who stay at Barn Owl Cottage choose it for its proximity to footpaths and cycling routes. There's a scenic loop from the village to Yearsley Moor, returning through forest and farmland, and a longer (9-mile) walk to Byland Abbey via Crayke and Coxwold Walk. However, having the Howardian Hills on the doorstep and being barely eight miles from the North York Moors National Park means that you are never short of options. The Yorkshire Coast is only 35 miles away and well within reach for a day of coastal walks and seaside fun.
