Thatched Cottage is a holiday home with charm to spare. As the name implies, this period cottage in the Waveney Valley has a thatched roof, original oak beams, a pretty garden, and space to sleep up to eight people in four beautiful bedrooms. The owners have combined their artistic flair with a love of quality to create a welcoming place where you can enjoy a relaxing holiday with family and friends. There are lovely walks from the door, including a route to Bressingham Steam and Gardens and another to the 16th Century Kings Head pub in Lopham. With bookings available for holidays all year round, the only question is why aren't you there yet?
Quiet doesn't mean dull when you stay at Thatched Cottage, because there are many sights and activities to enjoy. Some, like Wortham Ling and Lopham Fen, are on the doorstep. Others, such as Thetford Forest with its Go Ape course, footpaths and mountain bike trails, are within a 20-minute drive. North Lopham is a pretty rural village in the Waveney Valley, right on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and within easy reach of Diss. You can go fishing on the River Waveney, play 18-holes at Diss, or tour Saxon village churches and other historic buildings. Other local attractions include Banham Zoo, the Boudicca Way long-distance footpath, specialist museums, and Diss Mere.
Days out can include shopping in Norwich, stay after dark to enjoy theatres, restaurants and nightlife. The beautiful Broads are just over half an hour's drive, and you can reach Aldeburgh, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and other beaches on the Suffolk and Norfolk coasts in around an hour. Bury St Edmunds, Ely, Colchester, Ipswich and Cambridge are all within reach for a day trip - there's something for everyone no matter what your age or interest.
There is a monthly farmer's market in the village hall but if you miss this there is a great village shop in the neighbouring village of Kenninghall which sells over 100 different gins! Alternatively, all the amenities you need for a self-catering holiday are only a few miles away in the medieval market town of Diss. Friday is market day, but there's a big supermarket, an excellent deli and butcher, and a good choice of other shops and places to eat. It's so easy to relax and switch off when you're somewhere as wonderful as the Waveney Valley.
