Valley View certainly lives up to its name! This luxurious holiday home has an uninterrupted view of hills, trees and woodland, with lots of space indoors and outside from which to enjoy it. It is in the quiet village of Frogham, a few minutes walk from the friendly Foresters Arms pub and less than three miles from Fordingbridge's shops and other amenities. There is room for up to ten people to sleep in six bedrooms, four of which are ensuite, so it's perfect for families, extended families and friends who want to explore the authentic New Forest - the wilder part of the National Park where there are more bridleways and footpaths than roads, and where it's more likely you'll be outnumbered by the local ponies and wild-grazing cattle on your walk than by curious tourists.
Frogham is less touristy and more "local" than many parts of the New Forest. You don't have to be a keen hiker to enjoy the beautiful countryside and trails leading from the village through forests and over moorland, where the famous New Forest ponies and donkeys graze peacefully. Mountain bikers can use the extensive network of bridleways and tracks that bypass boggy areas and help to protect the landscape and ground-nesting birds. Bike and e-bike hire is available locally for guests who don't bring their own ride. Road cycling in the New Forest is also fantastic, especially around this part of the national park where there is less traffic than around bigger towns like Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst. Alternatively, swap saddles for a guided pony trek.
Stock up for your self-catering stay at Fordingham's independent butcher, grocer, farm shop and bakery. Ten minutes further away, Ringwood has two supermarkets and a regular Wednesday market. Make a day of it by adding a tour of the Ringwood Brewery or a visit to Liberty's Owl and Raptor Centre. Other local attractions include Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World, the New Forest Water Park, Go Ape at Moors Valley, Boulderwood Deer Sanctuary, and the Moors Valley Country Park.
A word of warning: if you're after an adrenaline-fuelled holiday with glitzy attractions and the push to cram in as much as possible, the New Forest is probably not going to be for you. The pace here is relaxed and in harmony with the seasons. You can't rush things. You'll find that your pace instinctively slows, allowing you to appreciate having time to enjoy with your favourite people in a unique and beautiful landscape.
