Two The Old Alarm gives guests a chance to be a part of Lymington’s long history. The beautiful apartment is in one of the oldest buildings in town on the quaintly cobbled Quay Hill - once busy with horses and carts and now for pedestrians only. There is plenty of space for up to four people (+ one infant in cot) to sleep in two bedrooms, with a layout that is as suitable for couples as it is for families and friends. Everything you need is on the doorstep including shops, restaurants, and properly atmospheric pubs like The Ship Inn and The Kings Head.
Lymington has long been regarded as one of the prettiest Georgian towns in the South East. It sits on the Lymington River and looks over the Solent. Walk along the spit to Hurst Castle and the chalk Needles on the Isle of Wight look close enough that you could swim to them (though we don’t recommend it - they’re not that close!). Staying at Two The Old Alarm means you’re metres from the quay where you can take a sightseeing boat tour or book a boat, kayak or paddle-board for self-guided exploration. Away from the water, Lymington’s shops, galleries, and Saturday market, where there are regularly over 100 stallholders, provide happy hours of browsing.
The potential for adventure continues in the New Forest National Park, which is only a short drive away. Here, amongst the ancient woodland that was once the private hunting ground of kings, you will find endless miles of footpaths, cycling routes and bridleways, pretty chocolate-box villages with thatched cottages, and attractions like Beaulieu Abbey, the National Motor Museum, and the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum. If you love period properties then catch the ferry over to the Isle of Wight and explore Osborne House - one of Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday properties that is stuffed to the rafters with all sorts of curiosities. Milford-on-Sea is close by for a day at the beach, and Bournemouth is also within easy reach.
Nearby attractions include the open-air swimming pool in Lymington, which is one of the oldest lidos in the country, Hurst Castle and museum, Buckler’s Hard, New Forest Wildlife Park, and Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World.
There’s always something fun to do or beautiful to look at when you stay in Lymington, which is why it’s a perfect holiday destination at any time of the year.
The apartment is on the second floor (accessed via two sets of stairs) of a Grade II listed building with accommodation all one one level once inside. It has been recently refurbished and redecorated to provide a calm, relaxed atmosphere where guests immediately feel welcome.
