The Boat Shed is a romantic holiday cottage affording a waterfront position in Lymington. It's been skill-fully designed by its award-winning owners to fit a huge amount into a relatively small space, with stylish touches inside and out. Lymington is a busy harbour-front town yet, The Boat Shed is tucked away amongst the trees overlooked by no one but the birds - you'll feel like you're in your own pocket of tranquillity. The holiday retreat is next to the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, with some guests making good use of the public slipway to launch their dinghy and set sail on the Lymington River and the Solent. You're also only steps away from the welcoming Mayflower pub with its excellent seasonal menu. The cottage has been designed for two people but there is a 4ft-wide bed under the eaves to accommodate an extra adult/teen or two younger children.
Lymington has a long maritime history with a life focused on the water. The Georgian market town has a long high street lined with familiar shops and restaurants, with the area around the harbour having winding cobbled lanes and independent cafes and shops beside the Old Town Quay. Having two marinas and a regular ferry service to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight means that there is always something interesting to see. Go for a swim in the oldest lido in Britain, and enjoy the displays at St Barbe Museum. You can walk along the Solent Way footpath for beautiful views over the water to the Isle of Wight. Alternatively, load up your backpack with a picnic and walk the six-mile route to Henry VIII's impressive fort, Hurst Castle, crossing Hurst Spit or taking a small ferry to get there.
The New Forest National Park is on the other side of Lymington, with its picturesque villages and centuries-old tradition of wild grazing ponies and cattle. The forest and the marina are inextricably linked - you can still see marks on older oak trees, identifying them for future use by shipyards like Bucklers Hard who build ships used by Nelson's navy at the Battle of Trafalgar. Hire a bike in Lymington and explore via road, bike trail and bridleway. A day trip to the Isle of Wight is only a 30-minute ferry crossing away.
The Boat Shed is available all year round with short breaks (minimum of two nights) possible, depending on availability. Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
