Alderholt Mill is well placed amongst beautiful Dorset countryside on the Dorset/Hampshire borders. This picturesque working water mill is home to Millers End self-catering cottage which provides guests with the opportunity to relax and unwind.
Conveniently located, the mill provides an excellent base for exploring Dorset's many attractions and is also within easy driving distance of Hampshire (including the New Forest with miles and miles of forest walks), the Wiltshire Downs, the cathedral city of Salisbury and also the South Coast with Poole and Bournemouth making great days out by the sea.
The mill sits alongside the River Allen, on an island which is an oasis of calm. This little tributary meanders its way to Fordingbridge where it eventually joins up with the River Avon. Soak up the waterside setting from the garden which is alive with wildlife including herons and kingfishers who visit the wildlife pond and stream.
For those who enjoy fishing, you can fish for grayling as well as trout and the owners are more than happy to provide access to a bait fridge and secure place to leave fishing tackle.
Since the 14th Century, there has been a Mill onsite and today Alderholt Mill is fully working and open at weekends for cream teas and purchasing bread. Demonstrations are also available on certain days so please speak to the owner to see when available.
