Lilie’s Cottage is a charming period home that is full of original character. It was built in around 1805 and is just a 15-minute stroll from the centre of Lymington and even closer to the popular Monkey House pub. The holiday cottage is ideal for both families and couples, as there is space for up to four people (plus a baby) to sleep in two bedrooms.
The charming Georgian town of Lymington is a fantastic place to stay while you are in the New Forest. The friendly community is happy to welcome visitors and offers a good variety of amenities, including a thriving High Street lined with a variety of shops and cafes, and a buzzing Saturday market where you can browse for trinkets as well as pick up locally produced food and drink. The older part of town is reached through a very pretty cobbled lane that winds its way down to Lymington’s beautiful harbour and waterfront. Lymington also has a busy marina and a port with a regular ferry service to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, making day trips a popular choice for a day out.
Not only is Lymington attractive in its own right, but it’s position between the New Forest National Park and the Solent means there are copious ways you can enjoy being outdoors. The New Forest was once a hunting ground for royalty but now offers hundreds of miles of cycling routes, footpaths and bridleways for everyone to explore and enjoy the ancient forests and woodlands. The 5.5 mile Sea Air footpath starts near the marina and follows part of the Solent Way, passing through the Keyhaven Nature Reserve before continuing to Milford-on-Sea. Alternatively, the Walhampton Monument Trail is a circular, three-mile route from the train station at Lymington.
Being on the Lymington River and the Solent means there are opportunities to sail and fish, or take a dip in the open-air seawater swimming pool, which is open between the end of April and September and has lots of fun activities. Nearby New Forest attractions include Beaulieu House and the National Motor Museum, Bucklers Hard, and Hurst Castle which sits at the end of a spit and affords sensational views. Within an hour’s drive, you can reach Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester or, as Lymington has good train links, you could leave the car behind.
When you return at the end of a fun-filled day, you will find Lilie’s Cottage waiting patiently to offer a warm welcome, just as it has been doing for more than two hundred years.
