Coastguard Cottage has stunning views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight from the upstairs bedroom. In fact, it is so close to the water, it is just a stone's throw! The sweet terraced cottage is next to Keyhaven Harbour, within a few steps of the Gun Inn, and almost on the Solent Way Walk coastal footpath. It comfortably sleeps four people in two bedrooms, with room for a cot if required. Couples and families love this property for its fantastic location and light, fresh interior.
Keyhaven is perfectly peaceful. It is protected as part of the Keyhaven Nature Reserve, where the mudflats and salt marshes attract a wealth of birds and wildlife. The Solent Way passes through the village, going to Milford-on-Sea in one direction and Lymington in the other. Whatever time of year you visit and whatever the weather chooses to do, there is always something amazing to see whether it is a boat race, clutch of waterfowl chicks, a storm blowing in over the Solent, or a magnificent sunset.
Being on the Solent makes Keyhaven a popular spot for recreational sailors, and the village boasts two sailing clubs, the Keyhaven Yacht Club and the Hurst Castle Sailing Club. In season, there a regular tiny ferry service that runs between Keyhaven and Milford-on-Sea and Hurst Castle, and is also possible to arrange fishing and sightseeing boat tours. Kayaking is an alternative way of getting on the water and exploring.
You can spend your holiday touring the New Forest National Park, or lazily crabbing or poking around on the fantastic beaches. There are also great opportunities for beach walking on Hurst beach (just ten minutes away), Milford beach (fifteen minutes) and the gorgeous white sandy beaches at Highcliffe further to the west. The pretty Georgian market town of Lymington is nearby, offering a good variety of shop, cafes and pubs, as well as a car and foot passenger ferry to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. Lymington also has a popular lido which is open from the end of April to September.
Hurst Castle is a mile and a half from Coastguard Cottage, and the walk is worth it for the views as much as the exercise. Beaulieu House and the National Motor Museum is a short drive away, and you can easily reach Brockenhurst, Southampton, Portsmouth, Ringwood and Salisbury if you wanted to explore further afield. The New Forest National Park offers plenty of scope for ramblers, cyclists and those who like riding horses, so if sailing is not for you but you still like being active, there is always a fun and adventure to be had.
As Coastguards Cottage is available to hire for short breaks or longer stays, it is ideal whether you simply need to escape from the city for a long weekend to refresh your soul, or you want to stay for a week or longer to experience the joyfully slower pace of life by the sea.
Traditional from the outside but fresh and contemporary within, Coastguard's Cottage has been furnished to a high standard because escaping to the seaside does not mean having to give up your home comforts.
The cottage has central heating and WiFi. All utilities are included, as are sheets and towels, although guests need to bring beach towels if required. No pets are allowed but guide dogs are welcome. Coastguards Cottage is a non-smoking property.
