Discover Merseyside

Culturally Liverpool is one of the best cities in the north. The World Museum that is located in Liverpool itself offers various exhibitions spanning thousands of years with artefacts from all over the world. It features both natural and man-made displays and also hosts a fascinating glimpse into our solar system with a space exhibition. Also, The Bluecoat is a Grade I listed building that is a beacon of visual art, music, dance, literature and live art, featuring performances and displays all year round.

It would be difficult to mention Liverpool or Merseyside in general for that matter and not utter The Beatles in the same breath. The iconic band have legions of fans the world over, even half a century after they formed and the city is the centre point for all things related to the four members. The Beatles Story at the Albert Dock provides an insight into their history that can take several hours to navigate and the world famous Cavern Club, where they first started playing, is another must see attraction. Even though much of the original club is no longer there, the modern adaptation is in the same location.

The city of Liverpool itself is a great place for shopping and nightlife. With several large shopping centres and every high street store and multinational brand you can think of, a whole day can be spent navigating around the outlets in the city. It is also home to various pubs and clubs that provide a lively night out and the cities two football teams – Liverpool and Everton with their grounds, are a mere stone’s throw apart offering a unique experience for football fans.

Merseyside is not just about its urban appeal, it also has an impressive coastline as well. There are various coastal walks looking out over the Irish Sea that offer a relaxing respite from the city and The Sefton Coastal Path is one of the highlights with a dramatic and windswept landscape. Indeed, the Hilbre Islands, tidal islands on the River Dee, has a local nature reserve and offers some of the best wildlife, birdlife and landscape views in the area.

The county of Merseyside is one that has modernised at a rapid rate in recent years and the city of Liverpool is testament to this. With its glossy city centre and endless shopping and nightlife facilities, it is a must visit location in the north of England. That being said, the county does have its rural and coastal areas as well and it can rival the best coastlines in the country making Merseyside an incredibly appealing county for all who visit.
