The Old Farmhouse - Yealand Redmayne, Nr Carnforth, Lancashire, England - Sleeps 6Group bookings available: This property is one of 4 properties which, when rented together, can accommodate up to 22 guests
Brackenthwaite Farm offers a choice of four comfortable holiday cottages that accommodate parties of two to six guests individually or larger groups of up to twenty two when combined together. A true hidden gem of an area, the cottages enjoy a courtyard setting, nestling amongst seventy acres of beautiful rolling Lancashire countryside, teeming with wildlife.
Sitting on the borders of South Cumbria and North Lancashire, Brackenthwaite Farm is located on the outskirts of the pretty village of Yealand Redmayne, midway between Kendal and Lancaster, and affords an idyllic position within the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A place where 'beauty' abounds, surrounded by green lush fields and wooded areas that give way to spectacular views over the Lakeland hills.
Whilst the family no longer work the farm, you still get a taste of country life with sheep and cows grazing the surrounding fields, and chickens, ducks and geese wandering around the farm. The nature trail is sure to be a hit with the little ones (and adults!) with wild flowers to see along the way, buzzards soaring up above and if you're lucky, notoriously shy deer to spot. There is also a pond which is visited by waterfowl, along with plenty of space to relax outside (including BBQ area for alfresco dining).
Conveniently located for those who want to explore the Cumbrian coastline (as well as the Lake District), the picturesque unspoilt coastal resort of Arnside and the historic village of Silverdale are only three miles away and within easy driving (or cycling!) distance. The RSPB Nature Reserve of Leighton Moss is only two miles away, as is Gait Barrows, the country's most significant limestone landscape. This incredible national nature reserve was once part of the farm and is home to over eight hundred different varieties of moth, butterflies, a plethora of birds and the rare lady's slipper orchid.
For those who want to stay put and simply relax in this beautiful setting, there are lovely walks and bike rides (on and off-road) from the front door. There are also plenty of places for a meal out (and pint of local ale!), galleries, craft shops as well as opportunities for golf, horse riding and fishing in the local area.
