1 and 2 The Saplings are located in an idyllic part of Cumbria, sitting on the edge of the Lake District National Park at Bothel near Bassenthwaite. Set within 88 acres of woodland the cottages provide the perfect self-catering retreats for couples, families or friends looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Each cosy holiday cottage, sleeps two to four people in a double and twin bedroom, and being all on one level, the cottages are suitable for guests with limited mobility. Both cottages can also be rented together to accommodate up to eight guests so perfect for friends or families who want to holiday together whilst enjoying plenty of personal space. During the summer months throw open the patio doors and enjoy an alfresco lunch or evening glass of wine in the garden, or hunker down during the winter in the cosy lounge in front of the TV.
The holiday cottages are a great base for exploring this lovely corner of Cumbria. Just a couple of miles away in the delightful village of Bothel you will find a village pub as well as a number of interesting historic houses, including Woodford House, the original home of Cumberland sausage. Just seven miles away in the market town of Cockermouth you will find a wide variety of shops, eateries and galleries. You can walk from here onto the top of Watch Hill where you will be rewarded with fantastic views across to Scotland in the north or the Fells in the south.
For those who want to stretch their legs a bit further there are plenty of fantastic walks on the doorstep. Keen mountaineers will be spoilt for choice with the number of peaks to climb, or enjoy a gentle stroll around one of the pretty lakes. If you would prefer to explore this gorgeous landscape on two wheels there are numerous cycling routes to explore or head to the mountain bike trails at Whinlatter Forest. You can hire bikes in Cockermouth or bring your own and store them securely in the shed at The Saplings.
For those who can’t resist a trip to the sea, the coast is just a short drive away. The Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a haven for bird watchers or adventurous water sports enthusiasts can enjoy sea kayaking or kite surfing. Alternatively try your hand at sailing or fishing on Bassenwaithe Lake or enjoy a day out in Keswick, just twelve miles away. There is so much to do when on holiday here, but most people choose to simply enjoy the relaxed pace of life and stunning views in this beautiful corner of Cumbria.
