The Bothy - Bowland Bridge, Crosthwaite, Cumbria, The Lake District, England - Sleeps 2
The Bothy sleeps two guests and is located at Cowmire Hall, nestling in the Winster Valley, a peaceful area of the Lake District just seven miles from Windermere, Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. The Winster and Lyth Valleys are famed for their damson orchards and look particularly beautiful in the Spring when in April the trees are heavily dusted with white blossom. During the Autumn months (September-October) when the plump purple fruit is ripe, roadside farms provide plenty of opportunities for buying Damsons to take home for making jam or delicious Damson Gin!
Windermere, Kendal and Grange-over-Sands offer an excellent choice of shops for both stocking up on provisions and more interesting browsing and purchases. There is a Booth's supermarkets in Kendal and Windermere, along with two other supermarkets close to Kendal and farmers' markets for sampling local produce.
There are too many attractions within easy reach in the Lake District to list here. However, it is worth mentioning that rowing boats can be hired from the National Trust at Fell Foot to explore Windermere (just four miles away) and there are three superb country houses with fine gardens closeby to Cowmire Hall, namley Sizergh Castle (NT), Holker Hall and Levens Hall, along with the art galleries at Blackwell and Abbot Hall. There are also good pubs within walking distance.
