Situated within the Southern edge of the Lake District National Park, Rose Cottage is set in its own grounds of half an acre of woodland. This location makes Rose Cottage the perfect base for exploring the many of places of interest of the South Lakes, whether by foot, cycle, car or train. Located two miles east of Grange over Sands and just fifteen minutes from the M6, it is also an ideal base for exploring the whole of the Lake District.
The cottage has all the facilities you need and sleeps two adults and up to two children - therefore ideal for couples and families with young children. (unfortunately - no pets or smokers).
Sitting in a tranquil spot, Rose Cottage has immense character from the outside, with slate roof and limestone walls that date back some one hundred years. Modernised internally to provide all the comforts of home, guests will find everything needed to ensure a relaxing holiday including a private outside area for alfresco dining with an all weather barbecue. For those who prefer to truly relax and have a break from cooking, close by there is a pub for dining out (just sixty yards from the cottage, tucked away and a pleasant stroll though the woods!).
Locally, there are good opportunities for walkers with woodland and coastal scenery to explore along the Cumbria Way (which Rose Cottage is situated on). For those looking for something a little more relaxing, guests can enjoy the indoor spa and pool at the nearby Netherwood Hotel, an ice-cream overlooking the sea (made locally and the finest in Cumbria!) and the many facilities of Grange over Sands - a pretty seaside resort with Victorian charm offering a good range of specialist shops, promenade and train station. The nearby National Trust woodlands are perfect for a stroll and are just a short drive away, and the woodlands of Witherslack provide for a longer walk - or even a whole day out. In addition, there are several walks down to the coast line.
If you rise early, there is every chance you will be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the deer that wander through the grounds, along with other regular visitors including woodpeckers, barn owls and nut hatches which can all be enticed by leaving food on the bird table (if the squirrels don't get it first!).
Rose Cottage offers easy access to the many attractions of the Southern Lakes, and is also a short car ride from West Yorkshire with plenty of places of interest to visit. The historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale and Ingleton (with its stunning limestone scenery including caves, waterfalls and mountains) are within easy reach, and Ingleborough (the Dale's second largest mountain and home to Ingleborough Caves) offers an easy hill walk with simply stunning views to take in over the Cumbrian ranges and beyond to Morecambe Bay.
Lake Windermere is probably one of Cumbria's most visited attractions. Other local popular attractions include the Aquarium of the Lakes and the park at Fell Foot (just six miles away) where, for those feeling brave on a sunny day, you can take a dip at the Southern tip where the waters are shallow. Alternatively, enjoy a relaxing boat trip and explore the entire length of the Lake and discover all its beauty.
