Miss Potter's Loft is named after the woman who helped create one of Britain's most beloved institutions. We're not talking about Peter Rabbit or Jemima Puddleduck, as adorable as they are, but the National Trust. Beatrix Potter fell in love with the Lake District when she was a teenager and was passionate about protecting its beauty for future generations. Staying in this first-floor apartment is a must for anyone who admires Potter either for her charming stories or environmental legacy, as it is above the World of Beatrix Potter Exhibition in Bowness. The self-catering holiday home has a private entrance at ground floor level, two bedrooms, and a Juliette balcony overlooking Windermere. It's perfect for families but cosy enough for couples and comes with the convenience of off-street parking.
Bowness is one of the most popular places to stay on holiday in the Lake District. Maybe it's the waterside location, or possibly the spectacular views of the fells and mountains, but it doesn't feel crowded or busy the way a city can. Excellent amenities include bars, cafes, shops and restaurants steps from your door. You can rent bikes, boats, kayaks or SUPs, take a sightseeing boat tour, or book a place on the regular ferry to explore the other side of the water. A cinema and a theatre add more choice for evenings and wet weather. Windermere town is only a mile away with more places to eat, drink and shop. As well as the World of Beatrix Potter, local attractions include the Windermere Jetty Museum, the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway at Newby Bridge, Lakeland Museum, and the Lakes Aquarium.
There is far more to Bowness than its links with Beatrix Potter. This welcoming community is at the start of some of the most breathtaking walks in Lake District National Park. Pack a picnic, lace up your walking boots and head to Orrest Head, Brant Fell and Ambleside. There are craggy fells where you feel like you're the only person in the world, flower-strewn meadows, fields bordered by centuries-old drystone walls, and elegant gardens. Take the ferry across the lake to the Claife Viewing Station or spend a day climbing Scafell Pike, England's highest peak, for panoramic views over the UNESCO Lake District World Heritage Site. Mountain bikers can plan a route from miles of bridleways and off-road trails, while road cyclists can tackle challenging climbs to be rewarded with sweeping downhills. Fishing, climbing, and swimming are also popular ways to immerse yourself in the landscape.
Miss Potter's Loft is available for holiday bookings all year round. Extended stays are possible, depending on availability.
