About Hilltop

Hilltop is a picturesque cottage within walking distance of the friendly Barbon Inn pub, a 17th Century Coaching Inn. The lovely period stone building is perfect for couples or families as it has room for four people to sleep in two bedrooms and a spacious garden in a peaceful setting. The owner has done a superb job of retaining the cottage's country character while modernising it to offer a warm welcome and a comfortable stay for 21st Century guests.

Barbon is a quiet village with not only a great pub but an excellent village store which also serves as a deli and cafe. The village is ideally located for a self-catering holiday as it is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park between Kirkby Lonsdale and Sedbergh and within easy reach of both the Lake District National Park and Bowland Forest. Not only that, but there are some beautiful countryside walks leading through and around the village and the scenery is breathtaking - literally so, if you climb the hill from the village to Barbondale where your efforts are rewarded with far-reaching views and the perfect picnic spot! The Three Peaks Trail and Ingleton Waterfalls Trail are easy to get to from Hillside, or jump on your bike and make the most of the fantastic mountain bike trails in the area.

Kirkby Lonsdale is four miles from the cottage, providing a wide choice of amenities. The market town sits at the junction of three counties (Cumbria, Lancashire and North Yorkshire) and is something of a foodie's heaven. Market day is Thursday, but the local shops are always good for browsing. Do not miss the opportunity to see Ruskin's View or the chance to walk across the medieval arched Devil's Bridge. White Scar Cave is a great all-weather attraction, with other places to visit including great country houses such as Leighton Hall, Levens Hall and Sizergh Castle.

The owners of Hillside have thought of everything so that you don't have to. This is truly a place where you can leave your worries and stresses behind, letting the beauty of the landscape soothe your soul.

Accommodation Comprises:

Hilltop is in a quiet location with far reaching views and accommodation over three levels.

Downstairs:

  • Enter through a sheltered porch where you can remove and store wet coats and boots.
  • Relaxing living/dining room with comfortable seating and a log burner. The owners want guests to settle in and feel welcome as soon as they arrive, so they provide extras like a basket of logs and a welcome pack with the basics so you can put the kettle on and settle in straight away. A dining table and chairs for four people is at the side of the room, and the owners have incorporated the original beams and stone wall into wonderful decorative features.
  • Contrasting with the age of the cottage, the kitchen is modern and functional, with high-quality appliances and ample workspace and cupboards. Thought has been given to the utensils and equipment provided to make it simple to cater while on holiday, no matter how creative guests want to get in the kitchen.

Upstairs:

  • An oak staircase leads to the first floor and a double bedroom with fantastic views towards the local pub and fells beyond the village. There is a comfortable king-sized bed and proper storage.
  • A family bathroom has a P-shaped bath with shower over it, a heated towel rail, WC and handbasin.

Top Floor:

  • The oak staircase continues to the top floor where there is a fantastic bedroom with exposed beams, a double bed, television and ensuite with shower, WC and handbasin.

Outside: The garden benefits from outstanding views, and there is a picnic table and a bench from which to enjoy these. The cottage also has private off-street parking for two cars.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi sheets and towels are included. Smoking and pets are not permitted.
