Grange Fell Cottage - Grange, Nr Keswick, Cumbria, The Lake District, England - Sleeps 6
Grange Fell Cottage sleeps six guests in three bedrooms and is ideally placed amongst the fells of the Lake District National Park close to Derwentwater, Buttermere, and the historic market town of Keswick. Nicely presented throughout, Grange Fell Cottage is the last in a row of three, and sits by the green in the little hamlet of Grange nestling amidst the 'jaws' of Borrowdale (referred to by Wainwright as the "loveliest square mile of Lakeland").
The surrounding area is 'mountain country' and which ever direction you look, there are wonderful walks, magnificent peaks and stunning views beckoning. A paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, walkers can enjoy high level hikes and low level walks through rolling green valleys and majestic fells teeming with birds and wildlife. The local area also offers superb cycling both on and off-road, climbing, pony trekking, abseiling and water sports at Derwentwater.
Grange itself has a long history dating back to medieval times when the land was under the ownership of the Furness Abbey monks. It has changed little over the years and is still quaint and tranquil with a sprinkling of cottages, farms and two tea shops sandwiched each side of the row of cottages.
For those with a passion for the great outdoors and stunning scenery, the valley of Borrowdale could not be a better choice for your Lakeland holiday. Ancient clusters of woodland, magical waterfalls, historic packhorse bridges and pretty villages, hamlets and settlements such as Stonethwaite, Seatoller and Seathwaite just waiting to be discovered with tea rooms and pubs for a pint enroute.
At the far end of the valley is Honister Slate Mine - the last working one of its kind with a via ferrata for those feeling brave enough (the views will certainly reward your courage!). Follow the River Derwent to the Northern end of the valley as it makes its way to Derwentwater. Surrounded by majestic mountains and spanning three miles in length, there are plenty of opportunities to find a peaceful spot for a picnic, wonderful walks and water sports (Platty+ on the lake shores offers kayaking, paddleboarding, raft building which is a great team building exercise for large groups, and the unique opportunity to be at the helm of a dragon boat or Viking longship).
Whinlatter Forest also offers its fair share of adventure with tracks and trails for the most adventurous mountain biker as well as forest walks and tree top adventures at GoApe (the highest course in the UK!).
Just four miles away is the bustling market town of Keswick with a great range of shops, eateries, galleries, museums and attractions including the Puzzling Place, Keswick Climbing Wall (great for rainy days), Keswick Launch for relaxing lake cruises, and the Theatre by the Lake. Visit on a Saturday and browse the traditional market, or a Thursday (most) for crafts and local produce.
Whether you just want to immerse yourself in natural beauty, enjoy some of the finest walks the Lake District has to offer or discover the areas many attractions, Grange Fell Cottage offers a warm welcome at any time of the year.
