About Gable End

Gable End is a cosy, ground floor holiday apartment within a Barn conversion in a beautiful scenic location in Wasdale within the Lake District National Park. In a stunning position with views across Wast Water to the famed Wasdale Screes and beyond to Wasdale Head, encircled by the impressive peaks of Great Gable and the Scafells, this is arguably the finest view in Britain!

Ideal for couples or a family of four, Gable End is perfect for those wishing to enjoy the tranquillity and splendour of this remote part of the Western Lakes. Energetic fell walkers and climbers will be attracted to the challenging peaks of Great Gable, the Scafells, Pillar, Yewbarrow and Red Pike which can be accessed either from the apartment or from the Wasdale Head car park. Behind the apartment are footpaths leading to Seatallan, Haycock, Middle Fell and down to Ennerdale.

For those who prefer rambling there are many pleasant low level walks from the front door around Wast Water and Nether Wasdale, where the two nearest pubs, The Screes and The Strands are situated, approximately two miles away. To the north is Ennerdale; quiet and remote with a pleasant walk around the lake. The local general store and bakery is five miles away in Gosforth with supermarkets located in Egremont and Whitehaven.

The beautiful dale of Eskdale is six miles from Gable End with it’s famous miniature railway which runs from Ravenglass to Boot. There are also plenty of other attractions to visit including Muncaster Castle with its hawk and owl centre and the Roman Fort at the foot of Hardnott Pass. Further afield are the bustling towns of Cockermouth and Keswick. All these areas offer plenty of attractions and opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts, botanists and bird watchers.

  • Double bed with wardrobes/cupboards.
  • Second bedroom with single bed that has additional pull out bed to make double or two singles.

Additional information: Electricity, linen and Wi-Fi included in the price. Please bring your own towels. There is also ample parking available for two cars. The apartment is heated with storage heaters.

Prices: Low Season - October to March; High Season - April to September; Peak Season - Bank Holidays and School Holidays.

Gable End Noticeboard

Could we kindly ask, all visitors, to remove footwear, before entering Gable End - as Sheep Poo does not really mix, with the lovely beige carpet :). Barefoot or Slippers welcome
