Croftside and Croft Corner are the two holiday cottages at Croft House – a handsome Victorian country house in Applethwaite village just one mile from Keswick. Croft House has amazing views on all sides – towards Skiddaw, Latrigg, Cat Bells and the Borrowdale fells and also to the north western fells. Many guests return to enjoy the views and the location – between 40% and 50% of bookings each year are from returning guests.
Both cottages have their own gardens with garden furniture and a BBQ. There is on-site parking, lockable cycle storage, a separate laundry room with drying facilities, Wi-Fi, three restaurants within walking distance and discount vouchers for the Keswick Theatre by the Lake. There are a number of excellent restaurants both in Keswick and in the nearby villages.
The cottages are available all year for weeks or short breaks. They provide a 'home from home' to return to after a day out walking the fells, exploring the local area, or just relaxing. Croft Corner has accommodation entirely on the ground floor so is suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Most visitors to the Keswick area will know Applethwaite as the village where the walk up Skiddaw starts. The village is quiet and unspoilt and has a feel of being unchanged over the years. You are close to the characterful market town of Keswick yet away from the hustle and bustle of the town but with all the facilities on hand.
There are fell walks direct from the two cottages, including Skiddaw, Lonscale fell, Dodd and Latrigg or low level footpaths along the valley to neighbouring villages including Millbeck and Threlkeld. You can walk into Keswick by various routes.
As well as being a walker’s paradise you can try many adventure activities such as mountain biking and the Go Ape tree-top course (both at Whinlatter Forest Park); sailing and canoeing on Derwentwater; climbing and ghyll scrambling.
The location is also ideal for exploring the Lake District by bike or by car. There are nine lakes within a half-hour drive including Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite – you can drive to both of these in just five to ten minutes.
There are many local literary and historical connections to investigate including two homes of Wordsworth in Cockermouth and in Grasmere along with Mirehouse with its connections to Tennyson. Also within easy reach are fantastic gardens at Dalemain and Muncaster and sometimes you can see red squirrels on the wooden slopes of Skiddaw and watch the ospreys near Bassenthwaite – they often circle high over Croft House.
The owner’s website (click below) has many more photos of the two properties and their peaceful location, along with full details of the up to date availability and rental rates with a 'reserve online' facility. There is also a wealth of information on things to do in Keswick and nearby.
