The Lodge is a comfortable holiday cottage on Connetts Farm on the Isle of Sheppey, with beautiful views over fields to the English Channel. Although the owners have retired from farming, they have kept 13 acres of land where guests can enjoy picnics and lovely walks, including one through fields to the coast. The former workshop has been renovated into a spacious, three-bedroom cottage sleeping six guests with accommodation all on the ground floor level. It's light, spacious, and ideal for families or friends.
The Isle of Sheppey is a fantastic place to relax and unwind, escaping from the stress and indulging in the sort of tranquillity that is hard to find. Measuring just nine miles long and four miles wide, the island is off the coast of Kent, overlooking the Thames estuary and the English channel. Its size and lack of hills make it easy for everyone to explore on foot or by bicycle, with waymarked footpaths leading through the countryside and around the coast. Spend lazy days on the beach at Leysdown and Minster. Surfing, SUP and sailing are all readily accessible.
Spend happy hours at the Elmley Nature Reserve and the Swale Nature Reserve, where the natural landscape and wealth of birds, plants and wildlife will restore your soul. Birdwatchers love the Isle of Sheppey for the vast number of birds to spot in all seasons. Depending on when you visit, you could see harriers, golden and green plovers, short-eared owls, egrets and herons, to name a few.
The island's size makes everything close, so you don't have to travel far to reach attractions like the Eastchurch Aviation Museum, Minster Abbey Gatehouse Museum, Queensborough Guildhall Museum and the award-winning Ferry House Inn at Harty if you want a meal out. Shop for your self-catering stay at the excellent Brambledown Farm Shop for fresh produce, bread and meat. Eastborough is just over a mile from The Lodge, with two pubs and mini-supermarkets, while the big supermarkets and other amenities are only a few miles away in Sheerness. Slightly further afield but still within easy reach by car are Maidstone, Rochester with its beautiful cathedral, Leeds Castle, Dover Castle, Canterbury (great for shopping!) and the seaside towns of Whitstable and Thanet. Kent also offers easy access for a day out in London or France.
The owners have five other holiday cottages on-site, and these can be booked together with The Lodge to accommodate extended families and groups of friend. Please see their website for details.
