Greystone Cottage is a beautiful detached property in Brook in the Isle of Wight, with stunning sea views and space for up to six people to sleep in three bedrooms. From here, you and your family can easily reach gorgeous beaches and favourite attractions, yet it's lovely and peaceful with a huge garden that is surrounded by countryside. The cottage is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with beautiful walks from the door, including one to the friendly Sun Inn pub about a mile away.
The Isle of Wight is fantastic for holidaymakers of every age and in every season. Having to reach it by ferry gives it that extra sense that you're really going away and on holiday in a way that a motorway drive can't do. The ferry terminal in Yarmouth, which has regular car and passenger services from Lymington, is just over six miles from the cottage, with the drive going along the coastline and through the Isle of Wight AONB. The other two ferry terminals are in East Cowes and Fishbourne, taking 30 minutes and 40 minutes respectively. You'll pass through Freshwater on your way from the ferry, and Brighstone is also close with a good selection of shops and places to eat and drink.
The size of the island means it is easy to explore far and wide without putting in any effort. You certainly get your money's worth when you stay here! A favourite family-friendly attraction is Blackgang Chine theme park, about a 10-minute drive away in Ventnor. The Needles - an iconic sight of the Isle of Wight, are also only a short drive from the cottage, and visible from the headland above Brook Beach. Other attractions include Osborne House, which was Queen Victoria's holiday home and stuffed to the rafters with curios and collections from around the world. Monkey World, the Donkey Sanctuary, the Isle of Wight Zoo, and Haven Falconry will keep the animal lovers happy, while Dinosaur Isle gives an insight into animals that inhabited the island in the past.
Being an island means there is no shortage of coastline. The beaches on the south coast, where Greystone Cottage is, are typically calmer and more sheltered than those on the north coast, where sailors favour the breezy conditions in the Solent. The island is popular for walking and cycling with some taking on the challenge of cycling around the island in one go. You'll see plenty of people making excellent use of the footpaths and cycling routes that go through the countryside as well as around the coast. The only really hilly part is around Ventnor Downs, and the effort to reach the top is repaid handsomely with panoramic views.
When your holiday is over and the sadness of leaving kicks in, the return ferry crossing will soften the blow and reassure you that there's always next time.
