About Greystone Cottage

Greystone Cottage is a beautiful detached property in Brook in the Isle of Wight, with stunning sea views and space for up to six people to sleep in three bedrooms. From here, you and your family can easily reach gorgeous beaches and favourite attractions, yet it's lovely and peaceful with a huge garden that is surrounded by countryside. The cottage is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with beautiful walks from the door, including one to the friendly Sun Inn pub about a mile away.

The Isle of Wight is fantastic for holidaymakers of every age and in every season. Having to reach it by ferry gives it that extra sense that you're really going away and on holiday in a way that a motorway drive can't do. The ferry terminal in Yarmouth, which has regular car and passenger services from Lymington, is just over six miles from the cottage, with the drive going along the coastline and through the Isle of Wight AONB. The other two ferry terminals are in East Cowes and Fishbourne, taking 30 minutes and 40 minutes respectively. You'll pass through Freshwater on your way from the ferry, and Brighstone is also close with a good selection of shops and places to eat and drink.

The size of the island means it is easy to explore far and wide without putting in any effort. You certainly get your money's worth when you stay here! A favourite family-friendly attraction is Blackgang Chine theme park, about a 10-minute drive away in Ventnor. The Needles - an iconic sight of the Isle of Wight, are also only a short drive from the cottage, and visible from the headland above Brook Beach. Other attractions include Osborne House, which was Queen Victoria's holiday home and stuffed to the rafters with curios and collections from around the world. Monkey World, the Donkey Sanctuary, the Isle of Wight Zoo, and Haven Falconry will keep the animal lovers happy, while Dinosaur Isle gives an insight into animals that inhabited the island in the past.

Being an island means there is no shortage of coastline. The beaches on the south coast, where Greystone Cottage is, are typically calmer and more sheltered than those on the north coast, where sailors favour the breezy conditions in the Solent. The island is popular for walking and cycling with some taking on the challenge of cycling around the island in one go. You'll see plenty of people making excellent use of the footpaths and cycling routes that go through the countryside as well as around the coast. The only really hilly part is around Ventnor Downs, and the effort to reach the top is repaid handsomely with panoramic views.

When your holiday is over and the sadness of leaving kicks in, the return ferry crossing will soften the blow and reassure you that there's always next time.

Location (Isle of Wight)

Accommodation Comprises:

Greystone Cottage is a charming property dating from the 1800s. The owners have restored it to a high standard to offer very comfortable accommodation over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Enter into a sizeable hallway where there is ample space to hang coats and leave shoes. There is also room to securely store bicycles. The house has a private driveway and is set back from the road, so it already feels as if you're escaping to a seaside retreat, even before you open the door.
  • Walk through a door into the light, bright L-shaped living/dining room. The decor is a mix of white, neutral and soft blues to reflect the natural surroundings. Two large sofas and an armchair provide ample seating for guests, and there is a TV with Netflix.
  • A solid oak table comfortably seats ten people with a mix of chairs and bench seating. Windows wrap-around the room, letting in lots of natural light as well as framing views over the garden towards the sea.
  • Smaller living room or snug, ideal for escaping for a quiet respite with a good book or if you need to do some work during your stay.
  • Contemporary kitchen with integrated appliances, a dishwasher and a tall fridge/freezer. The cupboards and drawers are stocked with crockery, cutlery, glasses and cooking/serving utensils - everything you'll need to feed a hungry houseful. The owner's make guests feel welcome with a hamper of island goodies, tea and coffee.
  • Tiled wet-room with a shower, WC and handbasin so you don't have to trek up the stairs with sandy feet after a day at the beach.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom with views you'll want to wake up early for! Pull back the curtains every morning and look through the bay window and down the coast. The room is at the end of the hallway so is quiet and private, with a king-sized designer bed, original oak floorboards, bedside tables with reading lights, a dressing table, and lots of built-in storage.
  • A twin room has two single beds with two further pull-out beds to increase the cottage's potential to sleep more people.
  • Third bedroom with a double bed and a chest of drawers that doubles as a bedside table.
  • Family bathroom with a bath and a shower attachment, heated towel rail, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: Greystone Cottage sits on a large plot with a large area of lawn, a patio, and off-street parking for three cars. Enjoy a barbecue in the sun, snack on an apple from the trees, or have a kick-about with the kids.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, sheets and bath towels are included. Guests to bring beach towels if they are required. Pets and smoking are not permitted. There is a bus stop within an easy walk from the cottage for those using public transport.

Access: For those who prefer to no climb stairs, there is a sofa bed available to sleep on. The living and kitchen area are wheelchair accessible but there is a step up/down from the entrance lobby (which leads to the snug and wet room).
