About Heron Bay

Heron Bay is a fantastic log cabin on the shore of Loch Linnhe. It sleeps four people in two ensuite bedrooms with a layout that suits couples, families or friends. Outside is majestic rugged Highland scenery. Inside the handcrafted wooden cabin, it is welcoming and cosy, with indulgent touches that include a super-kingsize bed, a wood-burning stove, and a large deck where guests can gaze across the loch to the mountains during the day. You're only steps from the water and a short drive from Fort William.

Fort William is the perfect holiday destination for hardy outdoor enthusiasts, which isn't to say that you can't find a peaceful spot to sit and simply "be". Lochs, lakes and mountains make this a year-round playground for adventurers. Bring your paddle-board or your kayak and explore the loch, returning for a waterside barbecue and the pleasure of telling stories and talking long after the sun has set. The Nevis mountain range, including Britain's highest peak, is close to the lodge, with endless skiing opportunities in winter and mountain biking in summer. Mountain bikers love this area for the diversity of trails, ranging from world-class downhill courses to challenging cross-country rides. Go rock climbing, hill walking, canyoning or abseiling. If there's an outdoor sport that makes your heart race with excitement, you'll find it here.

It isn't all about the mountains and the Munros when you stay at Heron Bay. The number of lochs and rivers make it ideal for watersports as well. Wild swimming is a fantastic way to reduce stress and improve your wellbeing, though all but the hardiest will need a wetsuit as the water rarely gets above 12C! Loch Linnhe is a saltwater sea loch and popular with anglers for pollock, mackerel and conger eels. Alternatively, head for nearby Lochy, Garry or Oich rivers for salmon, or a freshwater loch for brown trout.

You will easily find all of the food and provisions you need for a self-catering holiday in Fort William, including equipment hire. The town has an excellent array of places to eat, drink and shop, as well as the fascinating West Highland Museum, and the Ben Nevis distillery for that all important dram beside the fire. If you want to combine a day out with some shopping, Oban is a scenic hour's drive away and the gateway to the Scottish Isles.

Heron Bay is one of two superb cabins on the owner's private family croft. They can be booked together for extended families or groups of up to 8 friends. Please see their website for details.

Location (Highland)

Accommodation Comprises:

Heron Bay is a traditional wooden cabin with accommodation over one level (please note that whilst it is ground floor living, there are 3 steps to access the property via the front door). It was designed by the owner and is beautifully finished inside and out.

  • Huge windows along the front of the cabin frame gorgeous views over the loch to Glen Scaddle. An open-plan layout makes it possible to enjoy them from the kitchen, living room and dining room. The walls and floor are a gorgeous golden pine colour, making the cabin feel warm and welcoming all year round.
  • In winter you can light the log burner, turn on the TV and sprawl on one of the leather sofas. In summer, open the French doors onto the balcony and enjoy the hours of daylight that linger long into the night.
  • Even the simplest of family meals becomes a treat when you eat at the table with views towards the loch. The pine table seats four people.
  • A well-equipped kitchen has views of the woods around the cabin. It is well-stocked with equipment and utensils, with built-in appliances that include a dishwasher.
  • Master bedroom suite with a super-kingsized (6ft-wide) bed, hotel quality bed linen, and soft cushions and throws. The huge ensuite has a deep, double-end bath, walk-in shower, WC and a handbasin. Glass doors open onto the patio and frame the amazing views.
  • Twin bedroom with two full-sized single beds made up for guests arrival. The spacious ensuite bathroom is the same as the master bedroom, with a bath, separate shower, WC and a handbasin. The second bedroom also has glass doors that open onto the deck. It might not be the master bedroom but it's certainly not second best!

Outside: The lodge has a deck running the full width of the house with garden furniture and a barbecue. There is a big area of grass around the property and guests can walk down to the shore of the loch.

Additional Information: All utilities, bed linen and bath towels are provided. A travel cot (with cot linen), highchair and fireguard are all available. Smoking and pets are not permitted.
