The Stables Lodge is on a family-run farm near the Herefordshire village of Dilwyn. It's a welcoming holiday rental with space to sleep five people in three bedrooms and a layout that works well for families and extended families. The accommodation is comfortable, and the setting is idyllic, but it's the farm's resident miniature donkeys, horses, Shetland ponies and Southdown sheep that make this self-catering property so popular. The owners are happy to arrange for guests to meet and groom the donkeys, so bring your wellies!
Dilwyn is an ideal location for a holiday in Herefordshire. With over 1,000 years of history, it was mentioned in the Domesday Book and is in a protected Conservation Area, so it is wonderfully scenic. It's quiet and charmingly rural yet convenient for the busy market town of Leominster, six miles away, and the wonderful cathedral city of Hereford, 13 miles from the farm. It's simple to pick up groceries whether you order them for delivery to the lodge after your arrival, pop to the supermarket, or take your time browsing Leominster's weekly market in Corn Square every Friday. Dilwyn is part of the Herefordshire Black and White Trail, including Weobley, Sarnesfield, Kinnersley and Eardisley, showcasing the region's wealth of medieval (and later) timber buildings.
The area around the farm is perfect for walking or cycling through the countryside. The Stables Lodge is also within easy reach of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wye Valley, Shropshire Hills and Malvern Hills, giving an even wider choice of outdoor activities. Spend happy days walking, canoeing, mountain biking, shopping, and sightseeing at Hay-on-Wye, Ludlow, and Hereford. Local attractions include Croft Castle, Queenswood Country Park and Arboretum, Oaker Wood Leisure, and Hampton Court Castle.
You're not limited when you stay at The Stables Lodge. You can combine days spent relaxing in the garden and the hot tub with gentle walks, energetic mountain bike rides, fishing, golf and climbing. Take the dog for a walk before stopping at a relaxed country pub, or dress up and head out for lunch in a town. There are castles and country houses, activity centres and specialist museums. It doesn't matter what time of the year you visit. You'll be able to joyfully fill your days with fun. The owner has two other self-catering properties on-site. These can be booked together with The Stables Lodge to accommodate friends and extended family. Please see their website for information.
