Glen Lyon is a comfortable semi detached holiday house in Fife. It is one of four houses on Brigghills Farm located down a short tarred farm road, but just seconds off the main road. Sleeping five people in three bedrooms, it's in a scenic rural location barely a mile from Cardenden and Lochgelly and within easy reach of Kirkcaldy. As you look through the window onto the neighbouring fields where sheep and horses graze happily, it's difficult to believe you're only half an hour's drive from the cosmopolitan capital city of Edinburgh. Glen Lyon is ideal for couples or families who want to enjoy every aspect of Fife, from its ancient castles and traditions to its modern towns and incredible food.
Fife is a captivating mix of stunning views, fascinating history, excitement, and relaxation. It has a beautiful coastline, scenic countryside, vibrant towns and welcoming villages. Golfers love it for the 40-odd golf courses, including the world-famous links of St Andrews that are only a 40-minute drive from Glen Lyon. Anglers make the pilgrimage to fish off beaches and in lochs and rivers. Walking and cycling are always popular, especially with places like the Fife Cycle Path, Lochore Meadows Country Park, and Fife Pilgrim Way on the doorstep. The three-mile walk around Loch Ore is lovely in all seasons as there are various landscapes where birds and other wildlife thrive. You can also cycle here (mountain bike hire is available), canoe on the Loch, or the kids can let off steam in the park. The woodland of Harran Hill is another great place to stretch your legs, as are the Cardenden Woods and the trails to Benarty Hill, Mulla Craig, and the Cullaloe Hills. There is also a swimming pool at Cardenden which is popular with families.
Cardenden is just over a mile from the house with two small supermarkets, two bakeries, and a butcher. A few miles further, Kirkcaldy has shops, restaurants, pubs and other amenities. There is also a well-curated museum and gallery, theatre, ice skating rink, and Pathead Sands beach. Other attractions to enjoy during your stay in Fife include Kellie Castle and Gardens, the Fife Heritage Railway, Deep Sea World Aquarium, Dunfermline Palace and Abbey, the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum, Falkland Palace and Culross Palace. As well as walking, mountain biking, fishing and playing golf, you can go sailing, race go-karts and rally cars, visit the World Golf Museum, or visit the Scottish Deer Centre. Edinburgh is easy to get to either by car, train or bus at the Park and Ride and has amazing sights, fantastic shops, and exciting nightlife. Stirling and Dundee are around an hour's drive.
