Church View is a comfortable family holiday home in the coastal village of Porlock in the Exmoor National Park. It is immaculate throughout, with space for six people to sleep in three bedrooms and an open plan living area. The mid-terrace house is on a quiet residential cul-de-sac with no passing traffic that is barely two minutes on foot from the High Street. It's well-equipped for family self-catering and, while it has an enclosed garden to the rear, children love that there is a playground barely 100 metres from the house via a traffic-free footpath. Virtually every business in Porlock is owned and run by a local, including the family-run Castle Inn and two other pubs.
Porlock is a friendly village populated mainly by locals with a few holiday houses. It's an ideal place for your family holiday as it's close to beaches and other attractions yet quiet enough that you can enjoy family life. You don't have to worry that your kids will be woken up by revellers walking home late from the pub or that your summer barbecue will be drowned out by cars and buses trundling past the house. People love living here, and it shows. Instead of empty shop fronts and identikit chain stores, you'll find cafes serving freshly-baked cakes and scones, pubs with Somerset beers and ciders on tap, a traditional butcher serving locally reared meat, and a cheesemonger and deli that will fill any cheese lover's heart with joy. Minehead is a ten-minute drive away and has a supermarket, a farmers' market in the centre of town every Friday morning, shops, cafes and restaurants.
Staying at Church View means you don't have to choose between the coast and the countryside. There is a level footpath from the village through a Site of Special Scientific Interest to Porlock Bay, while other routes climb to Porlock Hill and Selworthy Beacon for breathtaking views over the Bristol Channel. Porlock Weir and the South West Coast Path are about a mile from the cottage, and you're close to Porlock and Bossington Beaches. Days out can include admiring the charm of Lynton and Lynmouth, two villages linked by a Victorian water-powered funicular with a beauty spot and cafe at the top. Minehead has two beaches and traditional seaside amusements. Go mountain biking, hiking, fishing, surfing, sailing and paddleboarding. Attractions like National Trust Dunster and Dunster Castle, Exmoor Zoo, and Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park make it even more family-friendly.
