About Braunton Cottage

Braunton Cottage sleeps eight guests in four bedrooms and is a fantastic Exmoor Farmhouse with hot tub that has been completely renovated and refurbished to offer self-catering accommodation of a very high standard. Original features such as inglenook fireplaces and beams have been perfectly mixed with contemporary finishings to allow guests to enjoy the charm and peace of this beautiful retreat.

Approached up a private quarter of a mile drive, the Farmhouse offers complete privacy within an Exmoor estate. The wild moorlands and open fields of Exmoor start at the foot of the garden providing plenty of opportunities to explore the diverse landscape and enjoy the wildlife for which Exmoor is famed.

The farmhouse is cosy whilst being naturally light, with large open rooms and lots of space for everyone to spend time together and also find a quiet corner for a peaceful moment.

Braunton Cottage is surrounded by some one hundred and eighty acres, in a magical valley with woodland, streams, paths and ponds. It is perfect for quiet strolls, family picnics or just playing in the stream! Alternatively just sit back and take in the wonderful views which span some sixty miles to Dartmoor in one direction and Skilgate in the other.

The surrounding area is a walker's paradise with plenty of magical walks including one that takes you to the little village where there is a shop, post office and the famous Royal Oak Inn which serves superb meals. Within half a mile (level walk) there is also the renowned 'Sportsmans Inn' which serves great pub food and local Exmoor ales.

For cyclists, the Sustrans Cycle Route runs past the farm taking you to Sandyway and beyond, where you can explore the beautiful Lanacre Bridge and Withypoole. Alternatively, cycle north and take in the incredible views as you travel to Moles Chamber, or visit Challacombe to enjoy lunch at the famous 'Black Venus'.

Exmoor is home to some of the finest hunting in the country along with some of the best fishing when in season. There are also plenty of attractions to visit including Dunster Castle, Arlington Court, Hartland Abbey, Rosemoor and numerous towns and pretty villages including Croyde, Minehead, Woolacombe and Combe Martin.

Accommodation comprises:


  • Large conservatory style porch with arched doorway leading to a wonderful secluded covered barbeque area overlooking the farm courtyard with fields.
  • Large hallway with storage under the stairs and downstairs cloakroom.
  • Spacious sitting room with beams and original inglenook housing a wood burner. There is also a large flat screen television or alternatively, sit in front of the fire with a good book or enjoy the views across the front meadow towards the ponds where you will see wild geese with their goslings in the summer.
  • Utility/boot room with plenty of storage space, Belfast sink, washing machine and ample drying facilities.
  • Dining room with slate floor, inglenook fireplace and table with chairs seating eight guests. A glass door leads to the front porch where you can sit and enjoy those sunny Exmoor mornings.
  • Traditional farmhouse kitchen complete with four oven oil fired Aga, electric cooker, separate gas hob and dish washer. There is a seating area with large screen television and French doors lead out to the large front terrace. This room provides the perfect place for family breakfasts and informal suppers and has ample storage space, preparation areas and large fridge freezer.


  • Bedroom one with double bed, wall mounted television, telephone, built in wardrobe and views over the farm courtyard. There is an en-suite bathroom with rolled edge bath, wash basin and WC.
  • Bedroom two is dual aspect with double bed, wall mounted television, telephone, built in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom with corner bath, bidet, wash basin and WC.
  • Bedroom three and four have zip and link beds so can be converted from two single to double beds if required. Overlooking the rear courtyard, they also have built in wardrobes and wall mounted televisions.

Additional information: Towels, bed linen, welcome hamper, Wi-Fi and complimentary toiletries are included within the price. Gas central heating throughout with instant hot water. Broadband internet access. Pets welcome. Two heated dog kennels with runs for four dogs. Off road parking for five cars. Details can be provided of local catering companies if you would like someone to prepare and deliver or cook meals during your stay by separate arrangement.
