About Blagdon Cottage

Blagdon Cottage is in a beautiful rural location on the edge of Wheddon Cross in Exmoor National Park. The semi-detached holiday home is surrounded by fields and sleeps eight people in four bedrooms with two bathrooms. The layout is suitable for big families or friends, especially those who yearn for a tranquil setting with lots of opportunities to be outdoors and active. There are fantastic footpaths and cycling routes from the door, including a trail to Dunkery Beacon. Stop by the Rest and Be Thankful Inn on your way home for a pint of local ale and a delicious pub meal, or stock up at local markets and use the cottage's excellent self-catering facilities.

Wheddon Cross is the highest village in Exmoor, with views of Dunkery Beacon from almost every street. As well as the pub, there's a busy village shop and post office, and playing fields with a playground and a multi-use games court. You'll want your comfiest walking boots to make the most of the excellent routes in the area, including the Coleridge Way that passes through the village. Mountain bikers are also spoiled for choice with miles of trails across moorland and over hills as well as along the coast. There are local stables for horse riding or bring your own horse and use the stables and paddock at the cottage. You're only eight miles from beaches at Bossington and Minehead if you want to swim, kayak, paddleboard or surf.

Activities you can enjoy during your stay are walking through the Nutcombe Bottom Tall Trees Trail, and exploring the house and grounds at National Trust Dunster Castle before having lunch at one of the excellent cafes in the village. The Quantock Hills are close enough for a day's mountain biking, and it's always relaxing to watch the boats at Porlock Weir (especially if you're doing so from the waterfront pub). Minehead is always popular, having two beaches and a raft of amusements to keep the kids busy even in poor weather, and you're only an hour from Exeter.

Blagdon Cottage is a semi-detached holiday home with accommodation over two levels.


  • A conservatory extension acts as an entrance hall and a second living room.
  • There is lots of natural light in the spacious living/dining room because of the attached conservatory. Leave the glass doors closed in winter to stay warm while still enjoying garden views, or leave them open to allow the summer breeze in to keep the house cool. The seating area has leather sofas and the dining table seats six.
  • Country charm abounds in the kitchen with its pine cabinets and oil-fired Rayburn. Those who prefer a modern oven will be happy to know there is also an electric oven and stove, and there is plenty of room to cook a full Sunday roast with all the trimmings, as well as the equipment and utensils to prepare and serve it.
  • One of the family bathrooms is downstairs. It has a bath with a shower attachment, a walk-in shower, WC and a handbasin.


  • Beds are made up for the arrival of guests and bath towels are provided.
  • Two large rooms each have a king-sized bed, bedside tables with reading lights, and storage.
  • There is a twin room with two single beds and lovely rural views. A travel cot is available but guests will need to bring cot bedding.
  • A small double bed is ideal for one guest but it's possible to sleep two people if they like to snuggle.
  • The second family bathroom is upstairs. It has a bath, shower, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: Enjoy the tranquil rural views from the private, enclosed garden and gaze up at the brilliant stars at night. The cottage has two stables and a paddock so guests can bring their horses on holiday. There is off-street parking for two cars.

Additional Information: Two dogs are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted.
