Curates Cottage is somewhere exceptional. With its spacious rooms, elegant proportions and three acres of gardens, the country house comfortably sleeps up to eight people in four bedrooms (or ten with the use of the separate Studio in the grounds) and is perfect for groups of friends or families with adult children. Not only does it have five lovely reception rooms, but it also has an outdoor swimming pool and a tennis court. Set in beautiful countryside six miles from Colchester, you could leave your desk in London and be luxuriating in the garden with a glass of wine in less than two hours.
Essex is a beautiful county with much to offer in terms of historic sites as well as gorgeous rural and coastal views. On the Essex / Suffolk border, the cottage is less than 15-minutes from Colchester which offers lots of fun for a day out. In addition to Colchester Zoo and Colchester Castle, the ancient market town has remains dating back to when Colchester was the Roman capital of Britain.
Days out can include touring Dedham Vale, 20 minutes from the cottage, whose pretty landscape was immortalised on canvas by John Constable lending it the nickname of "Constable Country". Alternatively, walk or cycle around Abberton Reservoir, climb the 99 steps to the top of Layer Marney Tower, or stroll beside the Blackwater River at Maldon. Mersea Island is also within easy reach and an absolute must-see for anyone who enjoys delicious fresh seafood.
Curates Cottage is wonderfully welcoming. The house's layout is perfect for socialising but also has quiet spaces where guests can relax in peace and enjoy a little solitude. In addition to the main cottage, there is a separate studio apartment in the grounds which sleeps two more people, bringing the potential accommodation of Curates Cottage to 10 guests. Please see the owner's website for more information on both the cottage and studio.
