Shore Cottage sleeps up to four guests in one first floor bedroom plus sofa bed on the ground floor. It is a charming stone semi-detached, holiday cottage with an enclosed garden in an enviable position just fifty yards from a secluded, tree-lined sandy beach on the historic Galloway House Estate. Hear the waves breaking from your bedroom or enjoy breakfast on the beach where you can walk the dog or enjoy the incredible wildlife including oyster catchers, peregrines, heron and even the occasional seal swimming the bay!
On the edge of the original walled garden of Galloway House, this delightful cottage retains many period features and has been enhanced with modern facilities. Its comfortable, light and airy accommodation offers a subtle mix of seaside, Scottish and garden themed rooms that blend perfectly with the surrounding environment.
Beachcombers will love this location as will painters, nature and garden lovers, writers, photographers, activity seekers, wildlife enthusiasts, bird watchers and those looking for a little romance! Shore Cottage is a perfect base for exploring the Solway Coast and enjoying its many attractions.
Lovely walks start from the cottage front door - take the shore path south through pretty woods filled with primrose and bluebells in the spring, to Cruggleton Cliffs and the castle ruin beyond. Head east to Garlieston village via the arboretum and woodland garden of Galloway House, famed for its spring displays of rhododendrons and azaleas and one among eight regional gardens to visit warmed by the gulf stream. Even palm trees grow here.
Fishing and golf can be enjoyed locally and the Galloway Hills and Forest Park offer an abundance of walks and activities including the world class 7Stanes mountain bike trails. Closer still the Machars cycle route is popular with cyclists (bike hire is available locally and delivery to the cottage can be arranged); Wigtown, home to Scotland’s famous book town with its yearly book festival; and the pretty harbour villages of Port William and the Isle of Whithorn are within easy reach by car or bike.
