Cairnsmore Tackroom Cottage provides a welcoming retreat for couples (and singles) and is situated close to Newton Stewart in Galloway on the private Cairnsmore Estate in South West Scotland. One of four residence, and the second offering holiday accommodation on the estate, the cottage is nicely placed in a courtyard setting and nestles amongst beautiful scenery - an ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of modern day living.
As its name suggests, the building was formerly a tack room within the stable block of the estate and has today been converted into spacious self-catering accommodation that provides one or two guests with a peaceful retreat for enjoying a host of country and coastal activities.
Cairnsmore was once the shooting estate for the Dukes of Bedford and the tranquil location lends itself perfectly as a convenient base from which to explore this beautiful rugged quiet corner of Scotland.
Ideal for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts, the surrounding area offers superb walking opportunities with one of the nearest particular favourites being the 'summit of Cairnsmore' which is just a short walk away from Tackroom Cottage.
Galloway's charming villages and towns have much appeal and its coastline is both dramatic and beautiful with a wild rugged charm. Newton Stewart, known as the Gateway to the Galloway Hills, sits in an attractive riverside position and is famed for trout and salmon fishing. Still having a weekly cattle mart, the town has a good choice of shops, cafes and cinema showing its roots in the Art Nouveau period. Wigtown, Scotland's famous book town with its annual book festival is nearby, as is the food town of Castle Douglas and pretty Kirkcudbright - an artist's town with a picturesque harbourside setting, colourful cottages and good range of shops and places to eat out.
