The Shepherds Hut at Tiphayes couldn't be in a more idyllic location. Tucked away in a sheltered spot on a former dairy farm in the Blackdown Hills, the traditional hut provides self-catering holiday accommodation for couples and individuals who love the prospect of spending time close to nature without sacrificing comfort or being dependent on good weather. If you don't want to cook, the holiday home is well-equipped for simple self-catering but is only around a mile from Upottery and the Sidmouth Arms and two miles from Churchinford village shop and The York Inn.
Upottery is in the centre of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's an excellent choice for anyone who appreciates beautiful landscapes, panoramic views, and fantastic places to walk, cycle, mountain bike and horse riding. Guests are welcome to wander the 12 acres of farmland where birds shelter and forage in ancient hedgerows and butterflies flit around wild cow parsley. Follow lanes from the village to places like Honiton and the River Otter and its tributaries, or further afield to the Wellington Monument, Staple Hill, Chard, and Culmstock Beacon. Mountain bikers can explore Dartmoor, Exmoor and the Blackdown Hills, while cyclists have miles of hilly country lanes and coastal roads to ride.
Pop to Honiton for browsing antique shops and a Devon cream tea, spend a day shopping and sightseeing in historic Exeter, or fossil hunting in Lyme Regis. Beautiful beaches such as Beer and Branscombe are under half an hour's drive from the farm, as is the magnificent UNESCO Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Go fishing, play golf, or do nothing more than sit outside the hut and enjoy the fresh air and a tangible sense of peace.
The Shepherds Hut has a rustic charm and is warm, welcoming and comfortable, and ideal for anyone to go off-grid and escape for a few days. The owners also have a converted barn sleeping two people. Depending on availability, you can book the two for couples on holiday together.
