Thatched at Higher Wiscombe is a luxurious cottage where families and friends can relax in the stunning surroundings of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It is one of just four self-catering properties on the exclusive 52-acre estate, giving 5-Star Gold accommodation in a peaceful and private location. Three ensuite bedrooms sleep up to six people, with guests having a private enclosed garden and use of the heated outdoor swimming pool during the warmer months.
Higher Wiscombe is perfectly located for exploring Devon and the Jurassic Coast. There are no immediate neighbours and no passing traffic to disturb the setting's tranquillity, which is just four miles from the South West Coast Path and beaches like Beer, Sidmouth, and Branscombe. Guests have good access to swimming, surfing, sailing and paddle-boarding, with lessons and equipment hire available locally if it's required. Walking is another favourite past time in all seasons, as the coast and countryside are scenic all year round. The East Devon Way is accessible from the property as it passes through 40 miles of heath, woodland and valleys between Exmouth and Lyme Regis. The Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is as beautiful as it is fascinating, with younger guests, in particular, enjoying the opportunity to hunt for fossils at Charmouth and Lyme Regis.
Golf, mountain biking and horse riding are all accessible within a small radius. The family-friendly Exe Valley cycle path has recently been extended, and there are trails suitable for less experienced cyclists around Haldon Forest Park. The Blackdown Hills AONB is a short drive from the cottage and, with Dartmoor National Park about an hour away, you'll never run out of wilderness to explore.
Honiton is the nearest town to Higher Wiscombe, about five miles north. It has many places to eat, drink and shop, including several supermarkets and a market every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. There is further variety in Exeter, which also has a magnificent cathedral. The countryside around Higher Wiscombe is home to some of the top restaurants in the south-west, including River Cottage, The Rusty Pig, and the Pig at Combe.
The owners of Thatched, Lorna and Alistair, are keen to ensure their guests have everything they need to relax and enjoy their stay. All of the Higher Wiscombe properties can be booked together to accommodate groups of up to 32 people for celebrating special occasions, corporate events, workshops and retreats.
