About Russett Cottage

Russett Cottage is a delightful thatched holiday home close to the sea with space for up to five people to sleep in three comfortable bedrooms. You won't have to choose between the coast and the countryside when you stay here. The cottage is perfectly sited for both, being in the picturesque village of Stokeinteignhead and just over a mile from Maidencombe and Shaldon beaches and only a two-minute stroll from the well-stocked community shop and the friendly Church House Inn where locals have gathered over a decent pint (or two) for centuries. Russett Cottage is ideal for families but also suits couples and friends.

Stokeinteignhead is not widely known outside of this part of Devon as it's away from the typical tourist trail. Pretty thatched cottages, gardens abundant with flowers and a village shop and pub at the heart of the winding lanes are idyllic in all seasons. The nearby fishing village of Shaldon is equally as attractive sitting at the mouth of the Teign estuary with its bowling green at the heart of the village and beach with 'posh' beach huts where locals congregate the minute the sun shines to BBQ, catch-up and make the most of the glorious setting. Aside from the beach, Shaldon has much to offer for a small seaside village. Pay a visit to Homeyards Botanical Gardens where the climb up the hillside will reward with spectacular views; stroll around the village or walk through smugglers Tunnel to visit Ness beach; or visit Shaldon Zoo with over fifty different rare and endangered animals to meet.

Also close by is Teignmouth. Offering a wider choice of shops and places for a meal out, Teignmouth is just three miles from Russett Cottage and has the original Victorian pier and theatre. The town of Newton Abbot (4 miles) has a racecourse, weekly outdoor and daily indoor markets and several large supermarkets if you prefer to get your groceries in a familiar environment. Bargain hunters will love being close to Trago Mills shopping outlet which also has a fun park and a garden centre.

There are walking and cycling opportunities as well as for everyone whether you set off for the wilds of Dartmoor National Park or prefer the more serene setting of places like Decoy Country Park, Courtenay Park or Stover Country Park. Walk along part of the 38-mile Templer Way, follow the South West Coast Path from Shaldon to Babbacombe and beyond for spectacular sea views, or take your binoculars and spend some time bird watching beside the Teign Estuary. Visitors can hire a boat, go surfing, fishing, paddle-boarding or swimming, or paddle along the river in a canoe. If you'd rather stay dry, then there are golf courses and tennis courts.

The beaches of the English Riviera (Torquay, Paignton and Torbay) are between six and thirteen miles south of the cottage, or you can drive north to Dawlish. Other local attractions include Paignton Zoo, Babbacombe Model Village, the prehistoric cave network of Kents Cavern, the Dartmouth Steam Railway, and Agatha Christie's former holiday home of Greenway. Exeter is also only a twenty minute drive away.

You'll always find something fun, interesting or beautiful when you stay at Russett Cottage. The owners have successfully let holiday cottages for nearly 30 years and understand what families want from a self-catering property. You'll find everything you need for a relaxing, stress-free holiday.
