Rose Cottage is a charming holiday cottage on the edge of the beautiful Youlston Estate in Shirwell village near Barnstaple. It's a lovely holiday home where you can experience the charm of the Devon countryside while still being within half an hour of the stunning North Devon coast. There is space for four people to sleep in two bedrooms, and it's child and dog-friendly to make it a proper family holiday everyone can enjoy whether on two legs or four. Exmoor National Park is also within easy reach, making this an area that's ideal for lovers of the Great Outdoors, adventurous souls, and people who crave open space and raw beauty.
Shirwell is a quiet village just over 10 minutes from Barnstaple. There are lovely walks from the village, including to East Down and the popular Pyne Arms pub, which is dog-friendly and serves delicious pub meals and local beers. You can also walk to Muddiford or walk or cycle the 4.5 miles to Barnstaple, where you can jump on the Tarka Trail and explore via the 180-mile figure-of-eight path that cyclists, walkers and horse riders share. The southern loop goes as far as Dartmoor National Park, and the northern loop reaches Lynton before returning to the pivot in Barnstaple. Bicycle hire is available in Barnstaple. Other local routes include walking along the South West Coast Path past Heddon's Mouth, Woody Bay and Hangman's Cliffs, or climbing to the top of Dunkery Beacon for panoramic views.
You have a choice of fantastic beaches within 30 minutes of Rose Cottage. Saunton Sands is dog-friendly, with surfboard and wetsuit hire and tuition. Instow is a lovely beach where the River Taw meets the sea, with other beaches including Westward Ho! and Combe Martin. Local attractions include Exmoor Zoo, Arlington Court and the National Carriage Museum, the Broomhill Sculpture Gardens, and RSPB Isley Marsh. Barnstaple has all the usual amenities, a busy historic Victorian Pannier Market, annual events and fun festivals.

Outside: Rose Cottage's garden is as lovely as the rest of the house. High hedges and mature trees ensure privacy and provide shade on hot days, while the lawn and patio are ideal for lazing about and relaxing with a summer barbecue.
Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are included. Guests to provide beach and dog towels if required. Well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement. The cottage is a non-smoking property.
