About Orchard Barn at Stone Farm

Orchard Barn offers the perfect combination of coast and country. The gorgeous conversion, which comfortably sleeps four people in two bedrooms, sits on more than eighty acres of private farmland, affording guests all the peace and tranquility they could desire (as well as a nature trail through the woods for leisurely walks). It can be rented on its own or, depending on availability, together with Meadow Barn which sleeps five guests in three rooms, and appeals to families and couples.

Guests are free to explore the farmland and drink in the views which stretch for several miles towards Dartmoor and Exmoor National Park, which is only five miles away. There are endless excellent footpaths, mountain bike trails, bridleways and opportunities for bird watching and fishing in the area. There is no better remedy to stress than a walk through the countryside regardless of whether you’re taking a gentle stroll in the sunshine or relishing the physical challenge of climbing a hill.

North Devon’s coast is an absolute delight no matter if you’re into sand castles or sunbathing, collecting shells or coasteering. Croyde Bay, Woolacombe, Saunton and Putsborough are all within easy reach, as are Westward Ho! and Appledore. Fish for your supper on the River Taw or pick up the catch of the day at Appledore Fish Dock and take it back to Orchard Barn for an unforgettable barbecue.

If you prefer to keep the Great Outdoors at arm’s length, you will still find plenty to keep you happily occupied for the duration of your holiday. Barnstaple is only six miles away, providing you with shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, an interesting local museum and cinema. It’s the largest town in the area and at the heart of the famous Tarka Trail. One of the best places to browse is at the Pannier Market (closed Sun-Mon) where people have shopped since 1573.

Hatherleigh is an hour’s scenic drive south of Stone Farm, and certainly worth the effort. Not only will you pass through spectacular Devon countryside, but when you get there, you will be greeted by the prettiest sight of traditional thatched and cob cottages dating back to the 1500s. Try to time your visit for Tuesday morning when the market is held. Other places to visit include Ilfracombe, Bideford and Lynmouth, connected by a cliff railway with Lynton.

Accommodation Comprises:

Orchard Barn is a modern conversion with a traditional layout. It has been finished and furnished to a very high standard to ensure your stay is a comfortable one. It is next door to Meadow Barn, yet both properties are separate and private.

Downstairs:

  • Entry is up several steps into a light and spacious open plan living and dining room. There are large windows, and glass doors opening onto the patio that allows natural light to flood in and create a welcoming space on even the gloomiest of days.
  • The living room has a Sky television with Sky Plus HD Family, Sport and Movie channels. It's tastefully decorated and features wooden floors and exposed beams. Squashy leather sofas are a comfortable place to sit and chat or watch television after a busy day. Underfloor heating keeps downstairs cosy all year round.
  • A dining table and chairs sit by the window near the kitchen to make the most of sunny mornings.
  • The fitted country kitchen is well-equipped with all mod-cons to make self-catering a pleasure. In addition to a full complement of crockery and cutlery, there is a good variety of cooking equipment, electric oven and hob, dishwasher and microwave. The owners have also provided a washing machine and tumble drier for guests' use.

Upstairs:

Both bedrooms are up a flight of wooden stairs that lead from the living room. They each have their own television with satellite channels.

  • The master bedroom has a king sized bed. It's angled ceiling makes it feel cosy without robbing the room of head space. Wooden floorboards and light coloured walls make the most of the lovely light that comes in through the French doors that open onto a private Juliet balcony.
  • The main bedroom benefits from an en-suite shower room which includes a heated towel rail, hand basin and WC.
  • The second bedroom has two full-sized single beds, a large chest of drawers, wardrobe, bedside table and reading lamp. Dormer windows provide lots of natural light.
  • The second en suite bathroom has a generously sized bath, heated towel rail, hand basin and WC.

Outside: A private patio area features garden furniture and a kettle barbecue for guests to use. It's a lovely sunny spot that is perfect for dining alfresco. Off-road parking is provided. The owners have created a family nature trail through the woods. Guests are free to explore the farmland, which is bordered in part by a stream. Sheep, deer and hares can be spotted regularly. Lockable bike storage is available. Table tennis room available for guest use.

Additional information: Orchard Barn has central heating and WiFi throughout. Linen, towels (including beach towels) and utilities are included in the cost of hire. Body boards, wind breaks, deck chairs buckets and spades are available for guests to borrow. No smoking. No pets. Short breaks may be possible depending on availability. Bank transfer is the preferred payment method.
