Nuthatch is bursting with traditional Devon charm. Sleeping four people in two double bedrooms with the option to sleep two more on the comfortable sofa-bed, the cottage is perfect for couples and friends who want to stay somewhere special. Nuthatch is one of four outstanding self-catering cottages at Lea Hill which is just outside of Membury in the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Membury is an excellent choice for a self-catering holiday in Devon. The friendly village is peaceful and picturesque with an Iron Age fort, a 13th-Century Church and an annual festival that dates back to 1660 when the English monarchy was restored to the throne. There are thatched cottages, beautiful walks and rolling countryside views as far as the eye can see. Four miles away, the market town of Axminster has a good choice of shops and amenities (including the popular River Cottage Kitchen and Deli) together with museums and a minster whose bells used to be rung every time one of its famous carpets was completed.
Walking and cycling are both a fantastic way to get a feel for just how beautiful this part of Britain is, and there is certainly no shortage of opportunity to enjoy being outdoors. The Buzzard Route cycleway is only one of many dedicated cycle routes around the area where there are also miles of bridleways open to mountain bikers and hikers as well as equestrians. The East Devon Way and South West Coast Path are both fantastic for walkers, or you can simply step outside the cottage and stroll through nearby Hawkswood and Thurlbear Wood. The Axe Valley has a number of rivers which attract kingfishers and otters, and the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast is only half an hour's drive with miles of stunning beaches just waiting for you to set out your deckchair and enjoy the sunshine.
Devon attractions close to Nutbush include Forde Abbey, Bicton Park, Dinosaurland, Crealy Adventure Park, Escot, Beer Quarry Caves and the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth. Whether you are visiting Devon as part of a longer holiday in the UK or enjoying the pleasure of a "staycation", there is no better place for relaxing with your family and friends.
