About Newton Cross House

Newton Cross House is a favourite holiday home for multi-generational families and friends. The large Georgian country house features generously proportioned rooms, beautifully landscaped grounds with a hot tub and a freshwater swimming pool, spectacular views, and luxurious touches throughout. There is space for 11 people to sleep in five bedrooms with fantastic self-catering facilities and accommodation spread over three levels. You can walk from the house to the Hunters Inn pub in Newton Tracey, while supermarkets, shops and the famous Victorian Pannier Markets are only six miles away in Barnstaple.

As you'd expect from the biggest town in North Devon, Barnstaple has excellent amenities. Its heritage as a prosperous port is seen in the elegance of Georgian and Victorian buildings. Local businesses thrive, including bars, clubs, and sports facilities that cater to locals and visitors alike. When it's sunny, head for the coast and beaches like Combe Martin, Hele Bay, Lee Bay, the sandy shores of Instow, and spectacular Tunnels beach with its tidal swimming pool. Also within easy reach are Westward Ho!, Barricaine, Saunton Sands, and Croyde. When you need to escape the summer heat or inclement weather, go ten-pin bowling or ice skating, play laser tag, or let the kids loose at soft play or trampolining. You can throw axes, hire bikes, and play tennis (though not simultaneously!)

North Devon attractions include Barnstaple Museum, Hartland Abbey, RHS Garden Rosemoor, and Exmoor Zoo. Walk along the South West Coast Path or hire a bike and explore Exmoor National Park, which is practically on your doorstep. The BIG Sheep and The Milky Way Adventure Park are popular with children, and a visit to Mill Farm Alpacas will leave a smile on everyone's face.

Newton Cross House is rural with the convenience of being close to beaches, towns, and popular attractions. It is somewhere you can escape with family and friends, relaxing in privacy and enjoying the peace of the spacious house and extensive gardens, or throw yourself into the excitement of seeing and doing as much as possible in the time you have.

Accommodation Comprises:

You'll know you've made the right choice as soon as you arrive at Newton Cross House. From the curved drive that leads through mature gardens to the beautifully proportioned house with sky blue shutters to the stunning entrance hall with its staircase winding up two further floors, everything whispers quality.

Ground Floor:

  • With a TV, sofa, working fireplace and fantastic garden views, the kitchen is far more than a functional space for cooking. Integrated appliances and a huge island keep things so simple and sociable that preparing meals will be a pleasure.
  • Glass French doors that open onto the garden create a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the dining room where the original timber walls and shutters are given a classic lift with an antique timber refractory table and a mix of chairs comfortable enough to encourage you to stay and chat long after you have finished eating.
  • Tall sash windows, an original marble fireplace with a log burner, timber floors smoothed by generations of feet, and huge sofas make the perfect place to settle back and watch a film on the enormous wall-mounted Smart TV in the living room.

First Floor:

  • Climb the staircase to the first floor where there are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a utility room with laundry facilities.
  • Bedroom One is a double with an original feature fireplace, garden views, and a wardrobe.
  • Bedroom Two sleeps three people and suits families. It has a double and a single bed, a chest of drawers, and a mirror.
  • Bedroom Three is the largest room featuring a luxurious super-kingsized bed, bay windows, a seating area with a TV, and storage.
  • Two bathrooms each have a bath and a walk-in shower, a heated towel rail, WC and handbasin.

Second Floor:

  • There are two further double rooms on the top floor, each has a king-sized bed with bedside tables and reading lights.
  • A large tiled shower room has a heated towel rail, shower with two attachments, a sink, and a WC.

Outside: You'll spend as much time as possible in the beautiful grounds of Newton Cross House. A timber deck features a table and a hot tub, and there's a freshwater pool at the bottom of the garden.

Additional Information: All bed linen, bath towels, utilities, WiFi, and logs are included. A cot and highchair are available upon request. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome.
