Lower Clunkamoor Cottage is the perfect 'away from it all' retreat for two, nestling in a magical oasis of tranquillity within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty between South Devon's beautiful coastline and Dartmoor National Park. This attractive stone holiday cottage offers single-level self-catering that adjoins the owners’ property, tucked away down a quarter of a mile private drive - just beautiful countryside, an abundance of wildlife and total peace and tranquillity with no nearby neighbours.
Perfect for nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts and those with a passion for walking, Lower Clunkamoor Cottage sits in the picturesque Avon Valley in the middle of a private nature reserve of some nineteen acres, managed specifically for wildlife. Meadows full of wildflowers in the warmer months, wild gardens, young woodland and rough grass areas all add to the natural beauty of the setting, and provide a home to more than sixty species of birds and at least a thousand stunning wild orchids, seen at their best in June.
Devon Wildlife Trust has designated this beautiful location a County Wildlife Site which is hardly surprising given its abundance of wildlife, from buzzards soaring up above to roe deer that can often be seen among the trees, along with badgers, foxes and hares.
For those who can tear themselves away from the tranquillity that surrounds Lower Clunkamoor Cottage, the dramatic wild scenery of Dartmoor is a short drive away (just five miles), with Devon's stunning south coast just a little further at nine miles.
Spend your days walking the moors and discovering the pretty villages and mysterious archaeology of the national park, or head to the coast and explore the wonderful South West Coast Path on foot and the wooded estuaries by boat, or just enjoy lazy days on one of the many sandy beaches. There are hidden coves for a romantic picnic, surfing beaches for exhilaration, and cliff-top views that will thrill and inspire in equal measure.
Enjoy days wandering around one of the area’s National Trust gardens or grand houses, pony trekking across the moor, cycling the leafy country lanes, enjoying a round of golf by the sea, or exploring the rivers and coastline by boat.
The cities of Exeter (forty five minutes) with its magnificent cathedral and Plymouth (thirty minutes) with its historic dockyard are within easy driving distance, as are the popular small towns of Salcombe, Dartmouth, Totnes, Modbury and Ashburton - all offering a great choice of attractions, independent shops and galleries, pubs and restaurants.
Alternatively, stay put and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the Avon Valley right on your doorstep.
