Hill Green accommodates up to eight guests in four en-suite bedrooms. It is located in a picturesque enviable setting just a short walk from Woolacombe Bay on the north coast of Devon with its fabulous golden Blue flag beach with sands that stretch some three miles long. Nesting amongst an acre of private secluded gardens and affording both sea and countryside views, Hill Green is a detached property and just a ten minute walk from the sea, providing an ideal place for families looking for a coastal retreat.
Voted one of the country's finest, Woolacombe's beach sits between Morte and Baggy Point and offers a vast expanse of golden sand that has been awarded both 'Blue Flag' and 'Premier Seaside Beach' status for its excellent facilities, water quality and cleanliness. It is popular with families during the summer months when life guards patrol the beach and renowned for its superb waves with surfers. The beach is just a ten minute walk from Hill Green, as are the pubs, cafes, shops and restaurants. Superb coastal walks can also be enjoyed from the front door for those who enjoy walking.
Mortehoe is pretty village sitting in a valley, and is just a ten minute car ride away with a fascinating history in smuggling and shipwrecking (sailors graves from the wrecks can be seen in the 13th Century village church). The village provides pubs for a meal or refreshments and a heritage centre. It is in an AONB which provides fabulous views, and an abundance of wildlife and flowers, as you are walking out past impressive rock formations to Morte Point. For those who are fit and active, Rockham Bay's peaceful sand and rock beach is worth walking to with rock pools to explore when the tide is out.
Ilfracombe is the nearest major town (just fifteen minutes by car) and is steeped in history and Victorian charm. It is home to the Landmark Theatre which hosts a wide range of local and national events and has a beautiful working harbour where you will see both fishing and pleasure craft coming and going. Boat trips to Lundy Island (amongst others) are available from the jetty and the harbour is also home to The Quay (Damien Hirst's restaurant). A visit to the famous Tunnel Beaches is sure to please the younger ones with an indoor soft play centre including a cafe and bar.
The surrounding area offers a host of picturesque walks for all energy levels. The North Devon Coastal Path provides plenty of great opportunities and is easily accessible from Hill Green. Nearby Exmoor National Park is also a walkers dream with wonderful moorland tracks and trails and great opportunities for those who enjoy horse riding. Cyclists too will not be disappointed and can explore the country lanes and disused railway lines of the Tarka Trail which links up with the Coast to Coast off-road cycle route between Plymouth and Ilfracombe. And for great days out, the areas has so many choices including: Exmoor Bird Gardens; Arlington Court; Lymington and Lynton (linked by a clifftop railway); historic Bideford in a picturesque setting on the estuary; Barnstable for those who enjoy shopping; The Milky Way and The Big Sheep (both sure to be holiday highlights for the little ones).
